The question remains as to Ford’s actual intentions in building the Raptor R. Will it be to:

  • a) Simply hold onto bragging rights that they have the most powerful, capable, etc. “production” pickup at the sacrifice of a $150k (Canadian) price tag and super exclusivity (think homologation “production” release requirements in the motorcycle racing world);
  • b) Actually take on all facets of the Ram TRX inclusive of price point and offer the truck at a comparative price (in Canada $120 to 130k).
Somehow I fear it won’t be the latter.
if history repeats itself, and it usually does, B.

I had to laugh when I saw the towing capacity. 8200 over TRX 8100 over gen 2 8000. A giant middle finger in the air at FCA. Similar thing with payload. Thank God they didn't make it longer, taller, and wider than the TRX. The TRX is a pig. Not a category where you want to "beat them". Actually, Ford won on size and weight.

For sure, thankfully they did not make the Gen 3 bigger! That TRX is just stupid. I mean why... makes no sense. Lol

No, I'll pass on the R. I use my truck as a daily driver, and so far I'm very happy with it. The R will be out of my price range anyway, especially if there's dealer mark up. I think it's gonna be like others were saying, limited production, hard to get, big mark ups. Anxious to see it though.

By next year I will already have a first edition bronco and a first edition TRX. Plus my 2018 raptor. Unless the R is something insane I’m staying where I’m at. Don’t even like the styling of the Gen 3.

No. I'm calling it what it is. This is a Gen 2.5, NOT a Gen-3. For the money I'd lose trading mine in for a 2021, I could do some amazing work on my Gen-2...

The biggest mistake I made with my 2014 was getting rid of it once it was paid off. I just paid off my Gen-2. I will not repeat the mistake. Once the world returns to somewhat normal, I'm going to customize my Gen2 and run the crap out of it in the dirt.

If/when they come out with a real Gen-3 and you can get it decked out for well under 100K, I'll think about it.

In, just at MSRP. And I feel like You will have better luck finding a actual Unicorn at MSRP then one of these trucks even with a few contacts.

I must ask, what, in your opinion, needs to happen before you'd call it a Gen 3? Perfectly reasonable to not see enough improvements to motivate you to buy a Gen 3, but refusing to call it a Gen 3, like the rest of the world, is rather silly.

Were you going to say V8? I can see the logic of that, or some other engine change. However, most of new gen F150s wouldn't actually quality as a new Gen by those rules. Maybe it has to look significantly different than the previous gen? Not sure, that's what I asked.
