Raptor R - Will you be buying this beast.

The question remains as to Ford’s actual intentions in building the Raptor R. Will it be to:

• a) Simply hold onto bragging rights that they have the most powerful, capable, etc. “production” pickup at the sacrifice of a $150k (Canadian) price tag and super exclusivity (think homologation “production” release requirements in the motorcycle racing world);
• b) Actually take on all facets of the Ram TRX inclusive of price point and offer the truck at a comparative price (in Canada $120 to 130k).

Somehow I fear it won’t be the latter.

The only facet the current truck doesn't beat the TRX at is on-road drag racing. Putting a big, super powerful V8 into this platform doesn't make a lot of sense, and requires a lot of hoops to jump through. So, if Ford could make a killing thoroughly trouncing the TRX, why wouldn't they? That's good business. Those who have nothing better to spend their money on will pay a premium, and the rest of us will opt for the plenty capable 'peasant' version, which will remain 'affordable' (well, excellent value anyway).

This is what I was thinking. The TRX wins in V8 noises, HP, and 0-60 time. What other facet does the Raptor need to worry about? You could argue that the TRX interior is better, but it's subjective and not something I see Ford trying to do anything about really.

I'd disagree.

Ford didn't have to make a GT350R, but they did and it is awesome.

They also didn't have to offer the carbon package on the GT500 either. But, they did.

Ford built a track car that runs with a 911 GT3, they'll build the Raptor R to Decimate all.

I expect Ford to be running the Baja 1000 this fall with the Gen 3...wonder if they will run the R or V6...and they will continue their dominance in a production off road pickup.

I spoke with my dealer again today. My plan is to move from my 19 to a new G3 truck when the ordering banks open in April, then upgrade to an R as soon as they are available the following year.....
