I've owned (and still own) both Chevy's and the Raptor.

just some top level thoughts:

1. Interior on the chevy's, on average is better than the fords. less rattles, more thought out design in general. (face it guys, the leather on our seats really sucks, wear cracks after 8000 miles is a bit silly)
2. Round Peg, Square Hole - Chevy really needs to understand the meaning of the term, "wheel arch"
3. Off road - well, out of the box nothing really compares. Sure you can drop 15k into a chevy to make it as good as a raptor, but then take that same 15K and make your Raptor even more awesome
4. gas mpg - much like my F430, I just don't ask. if I want mpg I drive something else

If I had wanted pickup just for the street and gardening and such, I probably would've bought a Z71, like my last 2 pickups and 6 suburbans.

I don't think the Raptor is the best street truck, it does look badass, but the width and gas mpg would push me to another truck for street use. That said it is my daily driver, and I put up with the issues on it while hoping there is a nice muddy field on my daily travels I can go tear up.

peace and love,
Ducatisps

No you don't want a Z71 package unless because if you upgrade you take it off anyway lol. GM does not even offer proper tires for them and forget about even putting on 33 inch tires!! The insides of the new ones are a very nice step up from the old body style. As far as ripping through a muddy field --- not really any difference to speak of except my Raptor had 37x13.50 tires (doing it last weekend a little while hunting).

Even with the Fox remote shocks on my truck and different suspension the travel is not the same as the Raptor plus the width helps. Stock rear springs on the Raptor are so bad off road that the GM is better esp on axle hop which is why I put the National RPG's on the Raptor in the first place plus handled better.

As a stock truck off road the GM is a way off in the weeds from the Raptor. Modified new GM is pretty close to the stock Raptor but it takes about 8k to get it there.... Powertrain not really a fair comparison imho much smoother and liner and I just got out of my Raptor. Hell I looked at the 14 had one with the limited package (red) but just liked the inside and powertrain better with the direct injection motor love. Would have still cost about 10k to get the Raptor where I would want it modification wise because after all how could I if I got another Raptor go back in performance from the old one.:burnout:

Hey Boss. As you probably know I've been satisfied with my Chevy trucks and I've been considering buying a '14 for my oldest since he'll be driving soon. So I've started researching, test driving and reading the forums and from what I've seen so far, I am not going to buy a '14 GM truck. The forums are full of new owners who are pissed off about front end vibrations, leaking coolant, warped dashes, poor fuel mileage, poorly fitting doors and tailgates, dash lights not working, movement in seats, intermittent cold starting problems, annoying switch from V4 to V8 operation, etc. Sounds like GM is having some serious quality control issues. Some of this is to be expected on a new model year and I'm hoping they get the kinks worked out eventually.

Not busting on you at all. But you may want to wait a little while.

Just wonder why you would not consider an F150 or Ram.
Both rated higher in customer satisfaction.

Are you kidding me? Ram rated higher in customer satisfaction? Who did that poll? Must be initial ownership survey because Chrysler products are shit for reliability. Ask those owners after 3 years and see what response you get.

I'm considering a Ford too. I was thinking standard cab with base motor and I like what GM has done to the the 4.3 this year compared to the 3.7 from Ford.

Speaks for itself really. A brand new design and not selling. Fords at the end of its old body style and still outselling the others. I love the new seirra but until they make a direct competitor for the raptor I won't leave the raptor world.

MCR has it right. For example, Chrysler brake disks are so soft that they wear out faster than the pads. I have a buddy who owns his own repair shop, and one of his customers got so tired of paying him to replace brake disks twice a year that he traded his Sebring for something non-Chrysler.

Next time you're in a Dodge showroom, pop the hood and look at the engine mounts on a Dodge truck and compare with those on a Ford. The Ford engine mounts are twice as big, twice as strong. That design regimen runs through the whole vehicle. It's why Ford trucks weigh more, and it's why Fords don't break.
