The caveat to this debate is obviously that there are many variables based on the application. In comparing the overall strength of steel vs aluminum, there is not a clear and simple answer. This is because, while steel is technically stronger than aluminum, aluminum is often much lighter, so you have to take into consideration the weight to strength ratio. However, in focusing just on shear strength, steel has a high amount of carbon contributing to its general strength advantage.

we r talking about f150 steel vs aluminum . the op said the aluminum is paper thin ,he is wrong by a mile .no caveats ,this was never a steel vs aluminum debate ,or variables based on application ,way to backpedal . it was as simple as the new ford aluminum is way stronger than the steel it replaced . you both have stated nothing to back up your claims .

Have to laugh at “old ford steel” and “new ford aluminum”. I will concede they probably have alloys stronger than steel but i stand by their body panels get door dings easy. Go walk around a Ford dealership, all the trucks have dings everywhere. Even brand new, the panels have a slightly wavy appearance. Or go talk to a dent repair guy and ask what he sees more of. Even draping my mountain bike over the tailgate with the Fox tailgate cover dented the back. Never happened on my other trucks or seen it on others trucks at the mtb trails.

Either way, you guys are really defensive about the Raptor. I have had tons of issues, some minor some not. I conceded it was probably bad luck and even said i was stirring the pot. Its a sample of one, take it for what it’s worth. But name calling is just childish.

no probably about it , they r stronger .havings dings at a dealership is a dealership issue . go to any dealer they don't treat the cars/trucks like someone on this forum . so u go around polling dent places .and investigate other trucks .

Entirely anecdotal and just plain wrong. The aluminum panels are more dent resistant due to the alloy and thickness, period. How many dealer lots are you walking across to make such ridiculous claims? Apparently you're surrounded by people like yourself, those that damage their vehicle and then try and place the blame on the manufacturer or design.

It appears that the majority of your issues are exaggerated, inaccurate, or self induced. Why stir the pot? What are you trying to accomplish? It seems that you're just trying to attract attention and create controversy.

My anecdotal experience is the truck dents and dings WAY easier than any vehicle I have ever had. Even just a finger test the door panel deflects way easier and more than our other vehicles.

There is nothing anecdotal about the know cam phaser issue. Again, you claim the issues are exaggerated, inaccurate or self induced is just ridiculous. Nothing about the actual warranty claims I posted are any of those. The others are my experience as stated. Like or not. I posted to discuss my experience if you dont like it GET LOST!

childish is making claims out of thin air (see steel vs aluminum ), then when proven wrong ,u dance around saying well I see fords with more dings ,so I must be right . u now look like a fool ,backtracking . im still waiting for your facts on the ford steel .

You don't even understand what a cam phaser is nor does your "finger test" mean anything. You need to just stop, you're only making a fool of yourself.

I'm a ford guy and have been for decades, these new trucks are tougher and stronger than the steel used in the 60/70's, 100%. Now the wavy panels ( near handles and panel ends) are just a part of production and all vehicles are like that these days except very high end cars, from my observation. I don't like it much, but it is what it is and it's not a Ford Raptor problem.

deflection has nothing to do with strength .
