I recently blew my what I'm pretty sure is my head gaskets. I was driving down the highway and pretty much lost all power with the check engine light blinking rapidly at me. Luckily I was taking it back up to the shop that installed the pro charger kit to get a cutout installed. It's currently sitting in their shop waiting for tear down but I was just wondering if they offered a better head gasket such as the mls variety. Also I know livernois offered head studs but would that require removal of the motor for install? After reading another head gasket story on here I'm hoping that the motor isn't toast, but if so it might be stroker time. Thanks

You dont have to remove the motor out of these trucks unless u hurt the crank or the lower end needs to come apart. there is a very simple procedure to remove the cab. it takes me about 1.5 hrs to remove the cab then you can work all you want with the engine right at a perfect working height!! there are 6 or 8 cab bolts, disconnect you upper and lower radiator hoses, brake master cylinder and steering joint. its that simple engine sits on the frame and cab just lifts off,of course you need a lift to do this.

Sorry to hear about your truck!

The engine would definitely have to be removed to install head studs.

The factory gaskets are MLS.

Unfortunately it looks like the motor is a total loss, so it might be time for a 6.6l.

The shop pulled all the plugs and #1 spark plug was bent, so they scoped the motor and found a hole in the piston of cylinder 1, and are going to pull the motor and tear it all down now to see the extent of the damage. Heads are probably shot as well. Is there an aftermarket cam for the 6.2? Might as well go ahead and build it all up while I'm at it.

Sorry to hear that :bawl:

We've been building a lot of forged 6.2L engines for boosted applications lately. Unfortunately, there is still no stroker rod other than the custom ones we had made for our 2 builds and they are extremely expensive.

There are some cams available that wouldn't clear a stock piston, but would clear our pistons since they have valve reliefs. We've also been working on our own profiles for stock engine applications.

Thank you,

Rick

I'm just waiting to find if the the cylinder walls aren't to messed up to see if I need to order the rotating assembly or the shortblock. If I have to rebuild it I don't see a point in going back to the stock displacement if their is more out there. Also what cam would you recommend for the stroker with ported heads and a procharger running about 7-10psi?

Hopefully some parts are salvageable! We could spec a set of custom cams for your application.

Second one this week...

We've been building a lot of engines for the power adder trucks.

See this thread that details one of our builds

Well I just got the pictures from the shop and looks like the motor is a total loss. It messed up the heads, shattered two pistons, bent at least one rod and a nice little hole in one of the cylinder walls. I'll post up pictures later when I get home and I'll be calling Rick@livernois soon for a new motor
