They can order it. They're just telling you they can't. ********.

There's also a stigma, even here, that a CA smog car has less HP than a "normal" one so if I were the dealer, I'd do the same thing but maybe not 10K worth of the same thing, that's crazy

Why? Serious question.

I'm not very knowledgeable on engines and fuel, and I haven't yet had time to sort through the relevant information and misinformation out there. A quick search brings a lot of contradictory reports. I'll find one article claiming better performance and power on non-ethanol blends, then I'll find another article saying the exact opposite and that 30-40% blends outperform regular gas. Have also heard ethanol is damaging to engines in the long-run... and then others claiming its not true.

My opinion:

Anything I've read that's pro-ethanol has always been written by the corn lobby.

Most articles are basically 'meh'.

1. Science says there's less energy in ethanol.
2. Engineering says the only way to get that power back is with greater compression; i.e., the engine has to be designed for it.
3. Engines are rarely designed for it.

There's a possibility - if Ford has gotten sophisticated with their algorithms - that they can adjust timing and turbo pressure to make ethanol worthwhile. Saab used to do it. But my understanding is that Saab's tech has yet to be reverse engineered well enough by anyone to make it work.

So in the end, you'd do it for cost. And the only reason the cost works is because the fuel is 50% subsidized by the government. If you're into government handouts then I guess you're into ethanol.

I've used e-30 ethanol for over 10 years in every engine we have on the farm. old new small big have not had one problem because of it. with e-10 we had some vapor locking in my 79 f150 but not with e-30 that is why I say e-30 rock's. you have to know how to set a carb if you use e-30. I have 2012 gas I had in a can we brought with to SDBR forgot it was in that tote. I've been using it in my pressure washer and lawn mower this year works good. and e-30 96 octane is .10 cheaper than e-10 :win: I'd stick with e-30 it's proven for me to work

Its real simple, Higher Ethanol % is a higher Octane. So if you are tuned for it/can support it then you will make more power on it with a Gen2.

Now you get less MPG the Higher you go with Ethanol % but its much cheaper per gallon than equivalent octane rating gas. e-85 is race fuel at regular gas prices, yes less MPG but with the higher octane rating and cooler combustion temps it makes much more power.

Now downside is that it does use more fuel which is why less MPG so you need to have a fuel system to support the higher flow rates needed with the higher ethanol blends.

They just started releasing direct injection pumps and injectors that can support much higher flow rates so expect to see a lot of ecoboost Mustang, Focus ST & RS builds with bigger turbos running e-85 making crazy power with these new parts.

It will be interesting to see what the Gen 2 will support from the factory.
