Multiple systems rely on speed sensors. Cascading failures are due to multiple system failures each throwing an error. The dealer determined your concern was addressed with an upgrade, correct? perhaps that's the fix. My failure was related to a speed sensor, that doesn't mean yours is. Good luck, take care

somehow we got onto wheel sensors, OP reported: the only code I was able to read was P0068 - mass airflow. and this was the cause of the limp home mode.

But that doesn’t really hold up. Warning lights are fine but allowing cascading failures from one faulty sensor is BS. For example, when I unplug a wheel speed sensor on my other vehicle, it throws the ABS and traction control lights. The engine continues to operate and I *don’t* get stranded somewhere. This is called fault tolerant

well... I don’t think that’s a fair criticism, I had an old Chevy that popped a fusible link in the battery cable one day, everything just went dark at speed. I was able to coast over to the side of the road and wait for a tow. that was an ’88 model truck. The Rap has more tech in the cabin than that whole Chevy truck had.

you had a powertrain issue and resulting fault.
Ford just called. They reset and updated the PCM and said to “keep an eye on it”. Can anyone confirm there was an update available for our PCM’s?

I have a late ’16 build 2017 MY and there have been lots of PCM updates since but unless you report a problem, they won’t update it for you even if you ask. The tech just plugs in the machine and it passes their checks and that’s it unless you raise some sort of concern that a PCM update would address.

Apparently you did. Maybe the issue isn’t unique to the Raptor?
https://www.troublecodes.net/pcodes/p0068/

P0068 means that the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has detected an excessive degree of variation in the input voltage signal from the throttle position sensor (TPS) as compared with voltage input signals from the mass air flow (MAF) sensor and the manifold air pressure (MAP) sensor. The PCM reads and calculates these individual engine drivability sensor signals and then compares them to help develop fuel delivery and ignition timing strategy. The PCM also utilizes this information to ensure that the fuel-to-air ratio remains constant, controllable, and within acceptable limitations. If the detected voltage values of these three sensors (triangulated) fail to coincide with programmed desired parameters, over a specific period of time or engine revolutions, a diagnostic trouble code will be stored and a malfunction indicator lamp will likely be illuminated.

Sure, all well and good. Why can’t the truck fail into ‘normal’ drive mode without going into limp home mode? seriously, this is kind stupid $hit bmw would do, like with their faulty abs module bikes from the 2000’s. When that abs faulted, you had zero brakes. none. nada. zip. zero. Your brakes just went away. I had it happen on an alps pass with my wife onboard.

Not every fault needs to be a severity 1 issue. Lose a wheel sensor, ok, but keep driving, disable abs, t/c, stability control, but humans were ok piloting trucks for a long time without all the bells and whistles.

Because liability. Down the road (ie out of warranty) people would just say **** it and keep driving it if it works. Then someone rolls one and dies- family sues Ford because the stability control was disabled, but the vehicle still allowed speeds that could kill them. "They said possible punitive damages of how much? Nah, just limp mode it and they can tow it."

ok, NRA, Mas Ayoob and many other prominent instructors counsel against carrying or using reloaded/hand loaded ammunition, on the fear that this will get you sent to prison for using super deadly, innocent child going to Quran study killer bullets with extra deadly consequences. a few yeas back someone asked for proof. Mas actually did dig up a case in which a prosecutor tried to make this claim - and failed. Miserably. This was in a gun unfriendly state. In a similar context - can you cite such a case or a similar case in which a manufacturer has been successfully sued for a collision while stability control or abs was disabled, where normal driving was available? I’m not saying it doesn’t exist, I’m saying I’d like to know if this is just internet conjecture or something more.

Drive modes defaulting to normal is another oft cited “Ford had to do it that way” - they did not. they simply did not spend the extra money to perform certification on modes other than eco. Other current MY vehicles from ’17 onward have retained selectable drive modes according to internet lore. It would be great if default drive mode on the Rap wasn’t some eco male bovine solid waste product, but retained last drive mode would be good too.

It really concerns me to read about these issues with brand new $70,000 Raptors. I would be livid if I had to deal with this crap like you guys are. My walnut sized brain tells me that If I pay that kind of money for a truck it better not be doing that stuff. I have had mine for 4 months now with over 7,000 hard miles on it. I have literally beaten the crap out of it. The paint is ruined, I drive it everyday for work in all conditions and road types and I do not baby it. But I have not had a single thing go wrong with it. Yet. I feel bad for you guys and if I had to drive a loaner around instead of my 70K truck while they try to figure out computer issues it will put me on the edge. It really disappoints me in Ford and I have been a Ford guy my whole life. Had nothing but Ford trucks, Excursions, Broncos, Edges, and Mustangs my whole life. I hope you can get these issues resolved and get back in you rig!!

I've also owned a lot of Fords and love the Raptor but mine is going in Monday for the valve cover replacement due to oil consumption and hopefully this will correct this issue.

$70?? In CA, we usually pay at MSRP then + tax, license and all the BS fee and sometimes Mark up, it rings up to $80K or slightly more sometimes.

I agree with you, paying that much money for a truck , shit like this shouldn't happen... I had a 2009 Silverado, never had an issue until hitting 100K miles . My other german cars/SUV, never had any issue either.

Yep. I sincerely feel bad for anybody who purchases a truck with a MSRP of $ 74,000.00 loaded, although dealers are discounting them $ 7000.00 maybe this is why, and has enough problems where it has to spend time at the dealership especially if it's their daily driver. This is what can happen with heavily mass produced vehicles. It is all about the details. Let's face it the Raptor is fords HALO truck, so maybe cutting production in half might be a good thing.

I am on my second raptor now and luckily I have had no problems to report. I hope it stays that way.
