Pretty sure they put sensors in spares as well to avoid people from actually ending up needing it and it ending up being flat. I know I never check the tire pressure on my spare. Especially when it's mounted so the valve stem is up and you have to drop the spare to check it.

I could see it being for those donut spares, that are limited on speed, yet idiots always drive around on them way too fast and way too long. A lot of them make them fugly *** colors instead of just black now to try and force people into getting off their lazy azzes and fixing their tires instead of just ride around on the donut.

Its in the owners manual I have seen it too. There is no TPMS in spare or else mine would be going off because I've never checked the air in it.
