yeah...every car is a little different...i should have said "many" na cars get no bennies.
Word, yeah generally if it makes no mention of 89/91/93 octane support, it does diddly/squat. Won't make anyone's Prius faster. :D

I regularly use 93. I'm used to saying Premium when I fill up the Raptor, GT350, and my Harley.
Last fill up the ******** dumped regular in. Didn't notice till I read the receipt.
Honestly I didn't notice a difference in performance, but for a few cents more, I'll continue to use premium.

If you didn't run it hard, the PCM probably wouldn't have noticed the difference either. It won't learn down until it sees knock. That's one downside of the mandatory full service stations in NJ; you never know who is filling your vehicle.

FTO What are your thoughts on fuel octane additives like Boost products to bring the octane levels up? I have used them in my race bike when I could not get a can of VP Fuel and also in my boat because I was buying 92 octane at the gas dock at the Marina so who knows if it was truly 92 octane.

I have had RIPP Supercharger`s on 2 of the Jeeps that I owned and I would add some octane booster to it when I was out doing some serious off roading or rock climbing. I have also read that there are some supercharger manufactures that seriously recommend that you stay away from fuel octane boosters ( BIG RED LETTERS), I have always wondered why some say that while others don't

If you have a tune in your Raptor that is set up for 93 octane and you add Boost octane and bring the overall octane level up to 95 or 96 could you do any harm or is it just a waste of money if you go over 93 unless you tune for the higher octane

It’s important to read the fine print; some products advertise the fuel octane increase in “points”, which can be misleading. If the additive specifies exactly how much the octane is increased by fuel tank size, then I don’t see a reason to doubt it.

The only reason I can think of for a supercharger manufacturer to not recommended octane booster is that if it is added to a full or partially full tank, it may not mix thoroughly enough to effectively increase the octane of all of the fuel in the tank to the same level, which could result in knock/engine damage.

If an engine is tuned for 93 octane and you’re buying your fuel from a reputable Top Tier location, octane booster should not be necessary.

I’m jealous of you guys. 91 octane is premium here (Texas Panhandle in sight of giant refineries) and cost $0.70 more per gallon than regular 86 octane. Mid grade is 88 octane here and is $0.30 more than regular. I’m guessing it’s elevation related since we are about 3,700 ft above sea level.

Oh well..first world problem. 91 it is for mine. I can tell the engine runs smoother with the 91 than 88. Seems to have less surging between shifts. No change in MPGs for me between the grades.

I didn't notice if this C&D article from 2019 was mentioned yet on this thread (it pretty much sums up what you need to know, no need for 4 pages lol) The 3.5 HO gains like 20whp bone stock running 93 octane over 87. Since Ford doesn't "require" 93 octane for the Raptor (although I believe they hint it offers better performance?) - one could assume that the 450bhp rating is based on running 87 octane (otherwise it'd be false advertising) - using the C&D dyno figures as simply a measuring stick & factoring 20% parasitic loss its accurate to figure a bone stock Raptor running 93 octane is really like 475hp/520 TQ @ the crank, and forget about simply HP #'s on the dyno - LOOK AT THE DROP on those performance figures!!!! Lops .6 off the 0-60, 1.8 seconds quicker to 100mph & 1/2 a second quicker through the 1/4 mile - I shouldn't have to extrapolate much, but HOLY HELL are those extremely significant improvements you will absolutely feel in the SOTP.

Like another poster i am also running a Gearhead auto octane adjust tune w/ the tow file - I exclusively run top tier 93 octane, I haven't dynoed it since & haven't taken it down the drag strip - but just seeing what 93 octane does to the performance figures on a bone stock F150 limited w/ the same engine, & having a lot of experience w/ fast vehicles (have a built C5Z06 was @ 660whp will be 750-800whp soon lol) I can only guess my Raptor is at least 100hp over the stock rating @ the crank - I don't think the truck needs anything else to achieve this either, CAI/downpipes/turbo adapters/exhaust/TB etc - incremental gains. The huge chunks in power w/ this thing probably come first from a quality 93 octane tune, then from bigger turbos, & if you want another big "chunk" of HP probably bore out the engine to a 4.0 or whatever. As cool as the TRX seems to be (and for sure that thing will be a blast on the street) & as much as I love HP as the next guy (clearly) I REALLY don't think the Raptor "needs" anything more than a tune, period, its amazing how hard it pulls w/ just a tune, 550hp/600tq @ crank w/ a 10 speed tranny, 4.10s & AWD transfer case.....well, as I've mentioned this engine is the primary reason I'm in a Ford & not a GM/Ram - love the immediate potential!!

Lastly - BMW LOVES underrating their vehicles!!!
