Premium vs. Plus vs. Regular

Solo...just run out the 87 and then use what you want. I usually run 91 but mine runs ok on regular so I wouldn’t worry. Lots of nannies on these engines to keep them safe. I can tell that the engine does like the premium fuel just by the feel of driving but I wouldn’t sweat the lower octane for normal driving.

So my dealer delivered my truck with what I'm sure is 87 octane and I ran it damn near to empty before stopping back in for them to replace a defective tire and they filled it up again (which was nice) before bringing it back. Is it worth adding octane booster to this tank before switching to 93 or just run the hell out of it get that 87 out of her?

I've stopped running mine darn near to empty when I read about folks having more fuel pump failures when they did that. It was in a thread here about a truck that wouldn't start on an incline when near empty if you want to look for it. Fuel pumps don't like sucking air. I fill up at a quarter tank. If I have to get sketchy gas somewhere, I fill up again when I find good gas, even if I'm only down a quarter. I figure that having some of the additives in the tank for longer is better than having none for shorter. But that's just my WAG at what's best. Like @DeerHunter44 says, just drive it, it will be fine. I'm sure it's top tier 87, so you don't need to worry about the additives.

It will quickly react to the lower octane fuel to protect the motor. When it comes to gradually increasing performance as it sees higher octane, there is no sensor for that other than lack of detonation. It ramps it back up cautiously over time. Just start feeding it the highest octane you want whenever you have time to stop. Quarter tank here, half tank there. It’s not gonna ramp the boost and timing back up in the span of one fill-up. It’s not like a flex fuel sensor or anything.

I'm all about Costco, but Sunoco 93 is all gas no ethanol, and that's what I run in everything. Especially, all my small engines, and 2-cycle motors.

You will see slightly better fuel economy with premium as well.
