Pre - during - post recommendations for a long drive (1400miles)...

My wife and I will be driving to our retirement property next month (DFW to South Carolina). Plan on driving straight through, fairly equal segments (DFW-Shreveport, LA-Jackson, MS-Birmingham, AL-Atlanta, GA-Lake Wateree, SC). Besides the usual - checking oil, transmission, windshield washer, tire pressure etc. Anything else I should pay attention to? Plan on changing my oil when I return.

You're good. Look her over periodically, like normal. Road trip miles are the easiest miles you can put on a car.

yes, pay attention to gas stations that have been converted into BBQ joints. It's usually where you get the best chow. otherwise, drive as necessary.

You’ll get tired before the truck does. check cargo if you have anything in the bed, otherwise it sounds like you have it covered.

A big tip I learned from my big road trip days, is, hopefully the wife is driving as well, and if this is the case, change every major gas fill up, even if you're not tired, it makes getting back in the seat to drive a thousand times better. Check your tire pressures as well before you go, especially the spare!

That brings up a really good point. SECURITY. Don't leave valuables in plain site, secure your belongings. Have a safe trip.

I dunno, if you have the 36 gallon tank, you could go 8-10 hrs between fill ups, depending on how hard and how low you run it. I'd change every 'bio-stop' i.e. rest areas. You'll need to empty your tanks before you fill the trucks' tank..haha. Otherwise as others have said, check everything beforehand, and if you've never had to refill any oil between changes you should be good to go. If you use a quart or so between changes (i.e. 'normal usage), ck it every tank or other tank, whatever makes you comfortable. Do it at the END of filling, so the oil has a chance to drain back down and you don't inadvertently overfill it.

We drive from South Texas to Pittsburgh, Pa. often. Other than the above check your windshield washer fluid. The fluid we get here is not rated for freezing temperatures !

get in...fill up with gas...check the oil...and drive. it is a modern truck. stop overthinkning it and enjoy your drive.
