The Raptor is a halo product, that’s why it gets the 3.5 HO that is not available on any other F-150 except the 19/20 Limited. It would make no sense to offer the 5.0 that has less power, less torque, and worse fuel economy. The Roush packages are entirely aftermarket and not compatible with the factory powertrain warranty, which is why Roush includes their own separate 3yr/36k powertrain warranty. If the engine or transmission blows at 36,100 miles, you’re on your own.
Im not going to agree with you on this.

1) Ford needs to add the 5.0 L HO version to the raptor. Its actually kind of sad it isn't here already. 450 HP on the 3.5 HO is the base engine. 5.0L HO could bump that to 500 HP and it can cost a 3 to 4k $ more option. That way you get the V8 sound that everyone has been wanting.

There is a difference in the customer wanting a V8. There is the pool of people that want the power from the 5.2L, and there is the pool of people that want the NA V8 sound. Also to be honest, the way they are making the 5.2L, it's probably going to be bundled in such a way that, it's just not going to be worth it for the people that only want the sound of the v8. They are probably going to make you get the 801A high package, make you get the 37 package, then you can add the 5.2L engine, and that's probably also another 10 to 15k...

2) If they weren't so greedy, they would add this 5.0L HO, it would bridge the gap between the 3.5L and the 5.2L. AND IT WOULD SELL LIKE PANCAKES.

Also, ford performance came out with their version of the supercharger addon that can installed at a ford dealer on the 5.0L... I'm sure they can make another model of this to fit the HO of the 5.0L. And if someone wants more power 1 to 2 years later after owning the normal V8, they can go get that installed, instead of buying a halo product 5.2L and being shoehorned into the 801A high package, and the 37 package. This also fixes the warranty issue you described.

Instead they are too greedy, and not adding the 5.0L to the raptor, just to sell the 5.2L version with outrageous profit margins. Thats the truth, this isnt an engineering problem with the vehicle or in-capability. This is greed.

There’s no room for the PowerBoost battery with a 36 gallon fuel tank. PowerBoost also adds significantly more weight, and the Raptor is already heavier than a standard F-150. The 5.0 would be a dog in a Raptor, it’s fast is a regular cab F-150, but with the weight and tire size on the Raptor it would be lacking on low end torque.
You wouldn’t need a 36 gallon tank w/ the power boost tho, would ya?

I actually thought that’s what this new Gen3 was coming with. I have a 2020, my 2nd Gen2, I came to Ford from mostly GM vehicles & one of the main things I liked about the Raptor (besides the obvious) was the nature of the 3.5 HO, I really like this engine, power all over the curve, good TQ down low, easily tunable, decent MPG…to me it sounds good more “high tech” or “exotic” time vs burly V8 rumble, obviously on the Gen3 trucks exhaust is much throatier- I like the fact the 3.5HO shares some internals w/ the GT, i esp like the fact that the crank/rotating assembly is all forged- HUGE deal worth noting when it comes to making a lil more power & long term reliability- we already see regular 3.5 EB engines going for 200k in standard F150s, that’s w/o all the upgrades on the HO version.

If same thing happened again to me & my 2020 got totaled by a distracted driver like my 2018 even if the R was available w/ the 5.2 SCd engine I’d still opt for a 3.5HO….w/ 37” package lol

If the hybrid was available though, & it was non plug-in…..that may be interesting, esp if it was still open to aftermarket tuning

I don’t think this is the case at all. See my prior post. Ford has put a BOATLOAD of R&D into tt engines & the 3.5HO is the pinnacle of that to date. I much prefer the nature of the 3.5 vs the 5.0 when it comes to the standard F150, & I’ve always been a V8 guy. I feel like when it comes to V8s these days Ford is much more focused on the tt & hybrid drivetrains, so more likely you’re getting a better overall drivetrain w/ the 3.5HO….if Ford was so confident in their N/A V8s they’d be producing more of em & sticking em in more vehicles (like ANY Lincoln or large SUV- there’s a reason it’s all EB)

They view the 5.0 as a “lesser” engine & it’s positioned that way in the F150 lineup, period.

FWIW- ironically I’d be more interested in a Mustang if they stuck this same 3.5HO into it w/ a stick shift

I would rather see a 4.0L I6 twin turbo, similar to the Barra engine but with forged internals and twin turbos instead of a single.

A 7.3 or another variant pushrod with a lighter block that's had its performance increased to offer similar power of the ecoboost

What would be the point of having an engine that is over twice the size with similar power numbers? All you’d be doing is halving fuel economy.

I really like the idea of a hybrid powertrain, but it's definitely something I would want to test drive before committing too. Whether a powerboost setup makes sense in a Raptor, I believe those that say it doesn't make sense right now. However, it seems like it certainly something that could happen in the future, possibly it's inevitable.

Like most Raptor owners, I don't need it for what it was built. What little offroad capabilities I need/what can be met with just about any 4x4. I got a Raptor because of the power, I liked how it drove on road, and for the styling. I could possibly get a F150 w/powerboost, do some mods on it, and maybe be just as happy as I am with my Raptor. Not right now though, that's for sure.

Seems best to take a wait and see attitude. EV/hybrid tech is changing rather quickly these days, and it's quite possibly that what's available a few years from now is vastly superior to what you can get today. Makes more sense to me to hold till the next gen of F150s come out.

Are you talking about weight or physical dimensions? Either way they will make similar numbers like you stated but the V8 would be a lot less complicated and the I6 is just a well balanced engine. As far as diminishing the fuel economy by half I doubt either of those engines would change more than 10 to 15%. That's why the "R" will exist.

Well, we could look do some calculations based on the numbers that are available. The PowerBoost gets the same fuel economy as the standard 3.5 on the highway (23), and 28% better city (18 vs. 23). Applying those numbers to the Raptor would result in 18 highway (same) and approximately 19 city. With the smaller tank and extra weight of the hybrid system, it hardly seems worth it unless you’re doing all city driving. Although the 7.2kw on-board generator would be a great feature to have.

First, there is no 5.0 HO. It doesn’t exist. The 5.0 makes 400HP in truck configuration, you’re not going to get another 100 out of it. Especially not without sacrificing more low end torque, which is already in short supply on that engine. Even Mustang 5.0 lost 10HP and 10lb-ft for 2022 due to emissions requirements; you’re not getting 500 in a truck application.

There is nothing “greedy” about not offering a less powerful, less capable, less efficient engine in a halo product. A 5.0 Raptor wouldn’t be able to get out of its own way, it does not have a torque curve suited for a heavy truck on 35’s.

The take rate for the 5.0 is well below the EcoBoost engines, so your theory of “selling like hot cakes” simply doesn’t have any substance.

The vast majority of buyers are not going to choose a less powerful, less capable, less efficient engine based solely on a sound difference. It’s not logical.

If you want the Hybrid Drivetrain then by a Powerboost and start bolting on the parts to make it Raptor like. Granted it will kill every advantage you have with the Powerboost. I was set on getting a PowerBoost until two things happened: Brown/Black interior needed for the Chrome Delete package and the 7.2K generator was having issues running campers due to not being neutral bonded.... So I would have a truck with either bling or ugly interior and a generator which will not work with my camper.... every advantage is evaporating quickly..... Besides I drove the Raptor and that was the deciding factor.
