First, there is no 5.0 HO. It doesn’t exist. The 5.0 makes 400HP in truck configuration, you’re not going to get another 100 out of it. Especially not without sacrificing more low end torque, which is already in short supply on that engine. Even Mustang 5.0 lost 10HP and 10lb-ft for 2022 due to emissions requirements; you’re not getting 500 in a truck application.

There is nothing “greedy” about not offering a less powerful, less capable, less efficient engine in a halo product. A 5.0 Raptor wouldn’t be able to get out of its own way, it does not have a torque curve suited for a heavy truck on 35’s.

The take rate for the 5.0 is well below the EcoBoost engines, so your theory of “selling like hot cakes” simply doesn’t have any substance.

The vast majority of buyers are not going to choose a less powerful, less capable, less efficient engine based solely on a sound difference. It’s not logical.
THIS. i can tell you that having owned all three gen raptors . my first one was a 2010 with the 5.4. to tell you the truth it was a dog in comparison to the 6.2 which came in 2011. but even that the v8 sound aside the 3.5 h/o is a much better performer.

If you want the Hybrid Drivetrain then by a Powerboost and start bolting on the parts to make it Raptor like. Granted it will kill every advantage you have with the Powerboost. I was set on getting a PowerBoost until two things happened: Brown/Black interior needed for the Chrome Delete package and the 7.2K generator was having issues running campers due to not being neutral bonded.... So I would have a truck with either bling or ugly interior and a generator which will not work with my camper.... every advantage is evaporating quickly..... Besides I drove the Raptor and that was the deciding factor.

I am thinking bolting on mods is going to kill a lot of the advantage as well. If you lift (suspenssion) a powerboost, put on some bumpers, maybe widen it's stance, I bet you loose a lot of the efficiency gains. And if you get a platnium or limited edition, you might well be over the cost of the Raptor anyway Sure it's nice to have the generator, but it's still pretty early.

Are you talking about weight or physical dimensions? Either way they will make similar numbers like you stated but the V8 would be a lot less complicated and the I6 is just a well balanced engine. As far as diminishing the fuel economy by half I doubt either of those engines would change more than 10 to 15%. That's why the "R" will exist.
It would make no sense to install an engine with twice the displacement that makes similar power, less torque, weighs more, and gets significantly worse fuel economy. You’d be lucky to get 10 city and 12 highway, the 6.2 is one liter smaller and could only manage 11/14, and that was on the older, less stringent EPA cycle.

Raptor R will be a 5.2 Supercharged, that’s been confirmed. 7.3 was designed for a HD/commercial applications.

I used to spend alot of time in the powerboost froums before I got my raptor and there were already some guys who leveled and put larger/heavier tires on and they never get any electric only drive where before in stock form, they could get 100% electric mode

Maybe everyone else’s experience is different than mine, but my 2021 with powerboost gets 17 highway and maybe 18 city when really using the battery only a lot. Very very disappointed in my powerboost real life numbers. Stock tires, and 95-99% efficient driving according the the EV coach
