Hey guys, I already have the RPG power steering reservoir. I have had this for over a year and did not have any issues until I really started driving more aggressive off road. I do not have any additional coolers for the system, is that the best upgrade option?
I want a solution, the issue is not price considering all the other mods I have into the truck another $1K or so for a upgraded power steering pump, cooler, whatever is what I need. I just cannot have the pump and rack fail again and ruin my fun. I just don't want to make a mistake and not get the right setup and still have issues. I am damn sure that my dealer is done replacing my pumps and steering racks. They are actually very interested in finding out what solution I find so they can offer it to their other "few" Raptor customers that actually run these trucks like they were designed to do.
I appreciate any advice you all have

I think an aftermarket PSR and cooler is necessary for our trucks. I'm not saying it's the solution but it will help. The fluid gets crazy hot on these trucks. I almost bought a small trams cooler and can combo for my setup but just got a more basic setup for a cooler to mount with my PSR and filter. Another thing I looked into was wiring up the radiator fans to a switch so I could turn them on during hard off-roading or slow trail riding to keep the fluid cool but wiring it seemed a bit more involved than I wanted to get. Didn't want to back up the stock wiring to much

I'm really not dashing the RPG reservoir. It's a good product. The only thing I'm questioning about it, is the pressure cap they are using on it. The stock reservoir has a vent cap. That's why when you run hard you usually find fluid weeping from it. The PSS reservoir also uses a vented cap. The more pressure you put into a system the higher temps are The more we work the the hotter it gets. By adding a cooler we are lower the fluid temp and also raising the fluid capacity of the system. Which is a good thing. When you add a cooler your adding it into the return back to the reservoir. When you install a cooler like the PSS cooler, you have have to shorten the return line, within the return line that you shorten there is a office tube. The office tube controls flow it's located inside the return line under the clamp that holds it in place. By removing it, the return flow is higher now. I also did notice the 2010 scabs don't use the office tube. These are just the things that I have noticed over the past week end, with all the failures we had. We do know we need a better pump and we also know we need a beefer rack The cooler we keep the fluid the less fluid breakdown we experience These are just my thoughts

Thanks for all the info big red. This is a big problem for us owners that work these trucks and because it's not one of those flashy cool upgrades I don't think the vendors really pay that much attention to them. Think about how many bump stop and frame enforcement lots there are then look at the steering mods available....getting more capacity and cooler fluid is key but obviously not a complete solution.

Couple questions, wiz mentioned possibly using a rack from a super duty as a solution. Any info on this? Also, what type of filters are you running? Are they sufficient to keep the metal shavings out of the pump or at least enough to detect a rack failure and stop before the shavings build up in the filter?

I'm not running a filter at all. I do have a failed rack in my truck But mine failed from the added stress from the Aftermarket tie rods I'm looking into the super duty steering rack now if it's available And what needs to be done to make it

I use the Magnefine performance filter. It had replaceable cartridges and magnet.

Interesting info on the vent cap, I will have to ask RPG about that. So does any vendor have a filter setup, cooler and upgraded pump ? I figured doing all those changes can put an end to this problem
