Thank you both for attempting and documenting this. Of course full functionality is the first concern for all, but many including myself have appearance as a very close second. Please include pics of the completely finished install from multiple angles and distances.

Question on the graphic display... Is it always a vertically split screen? Can you choose what you want on the top and bottom? I don't think I want that entire bottom screen real estate displaying a Raptor or generic city graphic all the time. Could you have the Sync at the top and a Nav map at the bottom?

Also can you include a pic of the camera displays? Can they be full screen?

my truck will stay at builder for 2 more weeks so cant take any of those pics you want until its done with the build.

you can change what on split screen and flip top and bottom just like my tesla can. that raptor graphic is only when you have the tach and speedo displays otherwise will never see that

the city pics which you can swipe to 5 diff ones only shows on the calendar display

i will putting a real pic of my raptor to replace all of the different raptor pics they used and replace all those city pics with my truck pics i want

The two videos posted are helpful. The music choice was gnarly.

It doesn’t show going into the steering column. I’m glad I watched. You would have never known that being the instructions provided are for a Chevy Silverado, which shows going into the column.

It’s a couple hour job, doing it first time.

What I don’t like is the cheesy speaker for “navigation” sound. That right there confirms for me that the tablet itself does not output sound? Otherwise, why would you need the speaker???

How does the audio, like say.... pandora.... play thru the sync unit — when playing it from the tablet?

A lot of these questions I’m sure I can answer when I actually install it.

they did not pull my steering column 100% of what is needed is behind the stock unit no where else you need to pull from

Just wanted to drop a line real quick and thank both of you guys for taking this on and doing it in a way everyone can watch and benefit from. So far this product appears to be ****. I’m very excited to see how the DIY install goes and how you guys like it after a while: definitely something I’m keeping an eye on for the near future.

Thanks, gents- really appreciate it!

I’m eager to get it up and running.

I know I may sound somewhat negative, but I am self tempering my optimism.

I still believe this product has the potential to be the best of what’s out there in terms of “Tesla Style” integration. You can’t really wreck anything because you aren’t removing the sync. The worst that I see happening is that the tablet turns out to just be a piece of useless jewelry.

I suspect there will be some missing things that need to be fixed through updates. Just a matter of how long does that take and how good can they get it.....,

I totally understand. I currently run a jailbroken iPhone with car bridge over Apple's Car Play on the stock screen in my '17 802a. It allows me to play YouTube, Waze, Sunday Ticket (awesome for tailgates), HBO, Netflix... Any iPhone App, really. I can mirror the iPhone screen or I can run the car play as it's own independent screen (i.e., NFL network on the phone screen [to listen to GMFB through the truck speakers], with Waze on the truck screen [to look out for tax collectors] on the way into work). It all streams over cellular with a monthly data plan (Comcast over the Verizon network, $15 per GB, $45 unlimited). It's sometimes glitchy, which may be the result of using an iPhone 6 for this setup, but for the most part it works reliably. It's also a pain to have to reload the jailbreak every week or so, and sign back into the apps when apple times them out, but those are first-world problems. Bottom line: it's pretty sweet, cost $5 for the carbridge app, and required zero work on the truck itself.

I am curious to see how it works out for you guys to see if it's worth the upgrade to go this route. If it operates more reliably, and can do all the same stuff as my old iPhone, I think I would be on board to do this as a DIY upgrade.

I do have the same security concerns as @OffRoader01, but I also have just barely enough of a background in that field to be paranoid (for my current setup I run an old factory reset iPhone with it's own a non-attributed email and Apple ID, on it's own cellular plan separate from my family plan... It's absolutely not fool proof, but at least it's something?).

Anyway, I'm keeping an eye on the thread and really looking forward to hearing how it goes, both with the self-install and both of your take's after having it for a bit. Thanks again, gents!

They posted another video with a demo.

First major quirk. You have no way to tune through radio stations on the unit itself. You can’t direct tune because there are no buttons to input and the only way to use a tuner is via the steering wheel control.

Folks at Phoenix say that they will have a future update with virtual buttons for said purpose but for now... that’s a little quirky.

yeah thats the virtual buttons they need to program like GMC has but they said ford is harder to program then GM system.

for me its ok i have all my favorites and use slacker which now i can use the slacker app from the unit vs sync

here is video

the audio plays in the speakers i did it on mine you can use blue tooth audio or use any of the apps like slacker, xm, amazon music, etc.. they all played and audio using unit sounds much better then playing through sync

that little speaker is only if you use the nav software on unit vs nav on sync

you can change default software to use as nav from unit which then you can see map full screen like tesla. i changed default to waze i had it on google maps i think for that pic
