Great info.

Thank you

the audio plays in the speakers i did it on mine you can use blue tooth audio or use any of the apps like slacker, xm, amazon music, etc.. they all played and audio using unit sounds much better then playing through sync

that little speaker is only if you use the nav software on unit vs nav on sync

you can change default software to use as nav from unit which then you can see map full screen like tesla. i changed default to waze i had it on google maps i think for that pic

Two quick questions:
1) does the tablet require its own cellular plan in order to stream on the road?
2) how does the OS receive updates?

It is a run of the mill android tablet.

It requires you link to a WiFi hotspot in order to get data.

This answers question 2 as well.

I do want to make a point to say that the device is absolutely OEM quality in appearance. The bezel is black with just a little shimmer, perfectly matching the OEM. The build quality demonstrates the use of OEM style and quality connectors. Wire harnesses are properly loomed and wrapped in OEM style fabric electrical tape.
There are points where wires enter their proprietary screen and it’s sealed with high caliber rubberized sealant. If I told you it was An OEM piece, You would believe me.

Granted mine is missing a part, but I’d hope that was a fluke.

you can connect to your phone if it has hot spot as mine does and i have at&t unlimited data plan
you can connect to the 4g hotspot in the truck i know 2019 has 4g hot spot not sure if other years do
you can use blue tooth audio and stream all music from your phone and truck would not need data connection unless you want to run the app direct from the screen

Android: Is the tablet an embedded android tablet? Or is this just an app that runs on the tablet? Meaning they customized android to a full SW build. Wondering if I can pull out their tablet, buy my own and add their app.

Lastly, what’s the SW update process from the US reseller providing new features?

I’ll elaborate the best I can.

It’s not an off the shelf android tablet. It’s an automotive grade android tablet with audio features. It’s very much automotive grade and will hold up to the truck on or off road. It’s also proprietary in that it includes the passenger airbag light built into the side bezel of the screen.

It’s not like the YouTube hacks you see where guys add an iPad or android to their dash. This is legitimately an automotive product and the “tablet” itself is certified for use in vehicles.

Whoever is manufacturing these things are doing it OEM quality with redundancy in durability for certain. I would not be surprised if the manufacturer isn’t also manufacturing OEM systems for other cars. It’s that good. After looking at it and inspecting it... I’m impressed. I’m just disappointed mine is missing a part.

There are QC stickers placed in the thing as well and they are inspecting and signed off in various phases of production. I don’t think it’s junk equipment.

By the demo video it also appears robust enough in terms of performance to serve its purpose within the vehicle. I’m eager to use the blue tooth to run my Dsp app.

Thank you. DSP App? I’m learning so much. I have not typically been much of a gear head but I’m doing more and more to my truck. Any other app, hacks you have in this regard please send them my way. I’m eager to learn all I can here. [emoji4]

FYI: I’m coming off of a 2016 Lariat after 2 years. Owned multiple Expeditions and Explorers prior. But never did anything myself to them. Appreciate it.

I totally understand. I currently run a jailbroken iPhone with car bridge over Apple's Car Play on the stock screen in my '17 802a. It allows me to play YouTube, Waze, Sunday Ticket (awesome for tailgates), HBO, Netflix... Any iPhone App, really. I can mirror the iPhone screen or I can run the car play as it's own independent screen (i.e., NFL network on the phone screen [to listen to GMFB through the truck speakers], with Waze on the truck screen [to look out for tax collectors] on the way into work). It all streams over cellular with a monthly data plan (Comcast over the Verizon network, $15 per GB, $45 unlimited). It's sometimes glitchy, which may be the result of using an iPhone 6 for this setup, but for the most part it works reliably. It's also a pain to have to reload the jailbreak every week or so, and sign back into the apps when apple times them out, but those are first-world problems. Bottom line: it's pretty sweet, cost $5 for the carbridge app, and required zero work on the truck itself.

I am curious to see how it works out for you guys to see if it's worth the upgrade to go this route. If it operates more reliably, and can do all the same stuff as my old iPhone, I think I would be on board to do this as a DIY upgrade.

I do have the same security concerns as @OffRoader01, but I also have just barely enough of a background in that field to be paranoid (for my current setup I run an old factory reset iPhone with it's own a non-attributed email and Apple ID, on it's own cellular plan separate from my family plan... It's absolutely not fool proof, but at least it's something?).

Anyway, I'm keeping an eye on the thread and really looking forward to hearing how it goes, both with the self-install and both of your take's after having it for a bit. Thanks again, gents!

Can’t seem to find the car bridge app...any more info on your setup is appreciated!
