Painting Brake Calipers

I did one of my cars with Dupli-Color Caliper Paint in silver. It's been on 5 years and still looks really good. I got the spray can, sprayed it into a cup away from the car, then applied it with a foam brush. No brush marks, nice even coverage, and you don't have to worry about over-spray everywhere. Doing it this way I didn't even have to unhook the brake line, just taped it off. The paint is really unusual, it seems to self smooth itself after you put it on and has a great finish.

I've gotten lots of compliments from people saying the calipers look new, even though it's a '98, and the fronts are really visible. I've done a lot of small paint jobs on my cars and bikes with this technique. It's not fancy, but it's easy, and it works.

Stage 3 looking like one of the better prices for the G2 paint if not going the custom route. Starting to lean back towards the regular Red they offer instead of a custom Ruby Red. The metallic paint tends to look different when painted on metal calipers and it doesn’t have a clear coat which also changes it’s appearance. Heard that even though it’s color matching, it likely will look different than the Ruby Red. I don’t think it’ll matter too much behind my beadlocks that it is a little different shade of red.

I plan on doing this as well. I have done this on a Lexus F-Sport several years ago. Painted them red. Put a F-Sport sticker on them then painted with clear over that. They still look just as good as the day I did them. All I used was VHT spray caliber paint.
There is not enough face area on the Raptor calibers to put any kind of decal. I already looked.

On the 2019 Bead Locks I have, you can see the calipers quite a bit more than on the 17-18’s. I just think it’s gonna look good when they’re done. Paint’s been ordered. I opted for the brush applied G2 cuz didn’t want to remove calipers or do a ton of masking so I could spray them....laziness on my part.

Decided to break it up into front one day, then rear another day. Only have 2 Jack Stands and the product only good for 4-5 hrs after mixing. Luckily found the G2 paint for $36 so I just got 2 of em (cheaper than another set of Jack Stands). Took a while to do but luckily I’ve only got 2500 miles so not a ton of clean up needed. If I had to do over again, only thing I’d change would be to go buy another brush or 2. The one supplied in the G2 kit is OK but after doing one side and having to push brush into gaps, etc, it gets pretty bushy making it hard to be precise. Ended up not quite perfect up close. I’d recommend getting a couple extra good quality fine detail brushes, perhaps one per wheel.

Will submit more pics when I get the rear done and the wheels on.

Looks great! Ya you definitely need extra brushes. The paint starts to dry on the brush if you’re doing front and rear.

You’ll be happy with it’s performance.

I’m glad I bought 2 sets of the product. You could do all 4 at the same time if you 1) had 4 jack stands, 2) masked extremely well so you could work quicker, and 3) had 4 good quality detail brushes. Smell is pretty strong so keep garage venitilated. Took quite a while to do it right; broke it up into 2 days doing front, then the rear. I didn’t mask that well on the fronts and didn’t do as good a job and took a long time trying to be very careful. The brush fraying and becoming bushy made it even harder. Had some extra and decided to do the tow hooks too.

I chose to go with their standard red because i figured didn’t need to match the ruby red color exactly as a brake caliper. You can order a color matching G2 paint to whatever color your vehicle is, or for that matter, any color of any vehicle you want if you get the paint code for that vehicle. I think it runs $110, maybe $120 for the custom option and if you choose to do 2 sets, it gets pretty spendy. I’ve heard that while they match the paint color, for metallics like the Ruby Red, because you don’t have a clear coat on top, it ends up not being an exact match anyway. The color turned out a bit more true fire engine red which I’m satisfied with.
