Coolant temps went up to 250 but only in hill country or when pulling something. What do you mean by heat soaked?
While towing or running through the hills are you locking out any gears so the motor is running higher rpms thus running less boost? Boost causes lots of heat real quick. I also live in AZ and tow to saguaro lake a lot. While towing on freeway I lock out 9 and 10 and once I hit Usery pass I lock out 7 and 8 so the truck runs between 2500 and 3k rpms and maybe 4-5 lbs boost. My boat and trailer combo is around 6500lbs and coolant temps don't go above 220 at hottest through the hills and stays under 200 on freeway. This was towing home a couple weeks ago when the temp was °110. This is with a 17xlt 3.5 with Mishimoto CAC though. Also run a OEM °180 tstat vs the stock °195 stat. 5* 91 performance/tow tune with fans adjusted for lower tstat.

you should see what happens when you hit 265/270. there is a "thermal shutdown" mode, and I found it, 100 miles from nowhere.

I haven’t tried locking out any gears yet but I will try it tomorrow. I’m taking a trip to Sedona and I’m curious how it’s going to do in the hills. Do you lock out gears when you’re not towing?

No I don't, when normal driving coolant temps stay around 190

Sorry I didn't get this. But do you mean that I should have the mishimoto overflow tank with the other supporting modes?
No. He had the mishimoto tank, hose blew off and he overheated his engine 100 miles from anywhere. The mishimoto tank has some bad hose connection points. I either read that in this thread or another one where he talked about it but I’ve seen a few others state the same. I’m getting my list together, I want to make sure I don’t have heat issues after Intercooler swap.

Well the charge pipes flow hot air to the intercooler which cools it. As the truck warms up the ic will hold a pretty constant temp depending on flow to the fins/bar and plate. You’ve obstructed the radiators similar design by slapping something in front of it, that’s hogging that fresh cool air.

The ic could be heat soaked from the hot radiator robbing you of power and the radiator could just be lacking a flow of air.

Watch this Gale Banks talks intercooler thickness and radiator coolant temps Starts at 57:30 till 59.07. Watch entire video if you have time lot of good info. Even talks about ecoboost's impressive HP at one point.
