While towing or running through the hills are you locking out any gears so the motor is running higher rpms thus running less boost? Boost causes lots of heat real quick. I also live in AZ and tow to saguaro lake a lot. While towing on freeway I lock out 9 and 10 and once I hit Usery pass I lock out 7 and 8 so the truck runs between 2500 and 3k rpms and maybe 4-5 lbs boost. My boat and trailer combo is around 6500lbs and coolant temps don't go above 220 at hottest through the hills and stays under 200 on freeway. This was towing home a couple weeks ago when the temp was °110. This is with a 17xlt 3.5 with Mishimoto CAC though. Also run a OEM °180 tstat vs the stock °195 stat. 5* 91 performance/tow tune with fans adjusted for lower tstat.

Yes my tune has provisions for the lower temp tstat. Fans kick in earlier- I want to say 185. I’m in Los Angeles.

Do you run a boost gauge? I run torque pro on my note 9 and this is what I monitor all the time. The lower boost levels you can run the cooler you will run.Okay so I just got back from my trip and I tried locking out some gears when going through the mountains. I locked out 9 and 10 and the truck stayed under 234. (Still a little hot but better than 250s). I ran at 80mph holding 3000rpms with it being 98° out.
