1st change I dropped the entire skid plate cause I could not figure out how to bend my arm to work with the access hole. That was a PITA, so 2nd change I was determined to do through access hole and was successful after mastering the yoga training required to do it that way.

Bottom thru the access hole in skid plate. I use my left hand cuz I find it easier. If the filter is stubborn or hot, I use a ChannelLock oil filter wrench.

It also makes it so much easier to use a filter removal tool that has the flutes that match the Motorcraft filter. Most of the time I can loosen mine by hand but have in the past used the ford specific socket with all the flutes to match the factory filter.

Just did my first change the other day. Loosened it from the top with Filter Pliers, then screw it off from below, and reinstall from below with 1 hand.

My first oil change was brutal! Factory put the original oil filter on WAAAY TOO TIGHT. No style of oil filter wrench would turn it. I had to drop the skid plate and use my Big Blue channel locks to get it off! And that crushed and poked holes in it before it finally started turning! WTF!!!

Then I drained the oil which did the waterfall thing all over the garage floor (for 17 & early 18's with plastic oil pans). 30 minute job turned into a 3 hour cluster....

I put a K&N Pro Wrench Off filter and only hand tightened it so oil filter will come off easily this time. Got to put the Ronin Drain Plug in this time too. Hopefully I can drain her this last time with the factory plug without striking oil again!!!

Aloha, HT

The first oil change is demoralizing ans makes you look like a total rookie. Oil all over the place and tons of curses. Second time, it’s easier cuz you know what to expect.

Tried Cup Type Wrench, Band Wrench, and Nylon Belt Wrench. None would turn the factory installed oil filter. It was on with like 100 ft lbs torque!

The Enforcer got it off but the oil filter was mangled in the process! What a pain in the @ss! This the biggest Channel lock available. 18" I think. Works great when nothing else will.
