Dealer forgot oil cap during Oil Chane service

At only 1 QT low that is a hard sell. I mean Ford won't even give you a motor for oil consumption until it eats what, 1QT in 1000-1500 miles?

A long time ago I had a local service garage do the same thing to one of my company cars, a Plymouth Voyager. It only had 10,000 miles on it. I took it back and the owner almost killed the young guy that did it and had him clean everything really well while not being paid. I put another 210,000 on that one with no issues. That does really suck. It pissed me off with a minivan, let alone my raptor.

Very true. Running it dry and 1qt low are way different. The dipstick doesn't say "add" until it's a qt low.

I'm surprised that you didn't get a CEL. I've moved my truck off the ramps after an oil change with the dipstick not inserted and it's thrown a P400 and the light shows up on the dash.

If be highly suspect of their claim that it only lost 1 liter.

That’s exactly what they would say to get out of the cost of replacing your engine.

I had a routine oil change performed at the local dealership 2 weeks ago (Jan 27th). Since the service, I had been smelling a faint burning odor when I would warm up the car on a cold morning - both outside and inside the truck. I initially wrote it off to some residual spilled oil during the service. I just finished a 1000 mile road trip and throughout I could still smell the burning. Yesterday I popped the hood to find half my engine bay soaked in oil, with the cap missing. The cap, surprisingly, was sitting on the radiator shroud just in front of the airbox duct. It must have wedged there with the hood closed. While driving like this, no abnormal eng oil temp/pressure readings (I have those gauges displayed all the time) - no CEL.

Needless to say I was furious and took the truck to the dealer right away. They changed the oil/filter and washed out my engine bay. They said it had only lost just under 1 liter of oil, and when drained, it didn't appear to be contaminated in any way. I voice my significant concerns about crap getting into the engine having just driven in snow storms and salt covered roads.

Did I dodge a bullet or should I be worried?

The first thing, well second after saying WTF, would have been to check the oil before I drove it back to the dealer.
