New rims for my Raptor

Well, not really but I spent little over $12 and 5 hrs of my time. It is plasti- dipped, not sure how well it will hold up in the long run but it should've come like this from the factory, or at least an option for non-bead lock rim owners.

It'll look dry, dull and have exposed areas showing through where it chipped off- and it'll be damn near impossible to remove. I'd peel it now while you still can.

Plastidip is good for "Will I like this all blacked out?" type stuff IMO. Since you do like it, peel the dip and get them painted black with a proper automotive clear coat (IE with hardener in it) on top.

It won’t hold up. And will be tough to remove. Looks decent though. I’d have gotten them powder coated.

I always find it funny when guys use all blacked out wheels....The wheels get lost in the black of the tires and you can't tell a thing when the tires start turning....I like a little color contrast to have the wheels stick put...

Personally, I'd just paint it as I have concerns with PC and the temps they use to cure it affecting the wheel's metallurgy. Might not be an issue on a car rolling down the highway, but a Raptor can really abuse a wheel and I'd would not want one to fail at speed.

The key is the wheel needs to be lighter in color than the tire. Unless someone plans to keep their tires slathered in tire shine (good luck on a Raptor), a gloss black wheel looks bad against the lighter-in-color tire rubber.

Dirt old thread but was looking for pics. Built my raptor in 2014, plasti dipped the wheels to see the look, making it temporary until i felt like dishing out the money. Its been 7 years now and all 4 wheels still look good. Never powerwashed them and only a few spots are starting to fail. Midwest winters with plenty of rain sleet and snow. No mud. Plenty of gravel. I do feel like the weight of the plastidip threw off the balance of my tires though. Almost instantly, The directions are 3 coats I think or so. Something like 7 or 8 cans maybe. Thats a lot of weight in wheel terms to just throw on there. But it definitely lasted.
