The Alpha1 Weld on Spindle Gusset Kit.


Just like other Alpha 1 products the new Raptor spindle gusset was designed knowing there was a need in the Raptor marketplace. The spindle gusset kit is the perfect low cost answer to preventing the OEM spindle (steering knuckle) from bending at the top mounting point. The bending is caused by the top 90 degree ear mounting point of the spindle going through full compression and the angle of the tapered pin in the factory arm causing the spindle ear to twist and bend. The bending is ever so slight at first but gradually gets worse over time causing negative camber and premature tire wear. The gusset is a full weld on kit and it is necessary for any off road enthusiast.


• A must have reinforcement for anyone who wants to play in the dirt with your Raptor.
• Strengthens the factory cast spindle uprights and prevents the knuckle from bending at the 90 degree top mount. This damage occurs during full compression with the factory UCA.
• 3/16" 4130 chromoly laser cut steel brackets.
• Welding and grinding are required to install.

$99 is a good price for that gusset. I might have to see if I can find someone who is good at welding CroMo to cast...

2 Can it be done on the truck with some wet fire blankets around soft parts?

Ya its quite easy to weld steel to cast... steel is slightly harder than cast iron, and therefore combines fairly easily

For a MIG, do you need to use different wire?

Nope... Standard MIG wire works. They are really close in carbon content... Cast has a bit lower melting point...

To ensure the strongest weld you should really preheat the cast part before welding. After welding is complete slowing the cooling down is also a good idea(wrap the part in a old sleeping bag overnight for example)
