People travel for deals. I have NEVER bought a vehicle locally. Set your spec and your price point and you will find it. Closest vehicle I ever purchased was 1.5hrs away. Furthest was 9hrs away.

Honest question, how much time would you spend right now looking for a "great" deal on a Raptor? If you can buy a Raptor at MSRP at a local dealer how much would you have to save to make it worth a 9hr drive both ways? How much time would it actually take to find that vehicle? I am not trying to be negative just asking a honest question. Right now you can't just go on cars.com and look for a Raptor, find one at a great price and drive out there to buy it. 99% of those low prices on Raptors are just a "mistype" or some other reason that the dealer put a price on the internet to get people to contact them.

I do agree if I was looking for say a King Ranch F150 ,where I know the advertised price should be a legit no BS price, I could go on a website and find a fairly low price that might be a legit 2-3k lower than my local Houston dealer. That would most likely be worth the drive. But to find a real life deal on a Raptor that would be 2-3k under MSRP would literally take 50-100 phone calls and hours and hours of time to find just the right deal on a truck that might be 9 hours away from where you are. Just to me personally that is a lot of valuable personal time to save 2-3k.

I think what you are saying is so much more accurate than people saying 1k over invoice is the norm. I live in Houston and I have called about 30 different dealers. Almost all of them start off with 5k over MSRP some even asking 10k over. They will go down from there, but they seem pretty much firm at no lower than MSRP. I did order mine at MSRP from Gullo Ford as they had legit allocation and I know it will come in. I placed the order in Oct and my build date in next week. I'm hoping to have it by Christmas. I could go to a dealer and pay MSRP after some haggling but I would still have to pay the 2k for the sticker package that I did not want. That's not to mention what kind of game they will try to play on a trade in amount to make up what they feel like they gave up on the sales amount.

I believe very few people on forums who say that got their truck for some crazy low price. We have to remember that this is the internet and there will always be people who want to be better than everyone else. They will always stretch the truth to make it seem like they got the best deal ever, but hardly any of them will ever actually verify their actual sales price with hard proof. There will always be a person here or there that run a business and buys 5-10 vehicles a year from a local dealer that may get a Raptor at +/- invoice, but these people are exceptions not the norm by any chance.

Also maybe if you call every dealer in a 5 state area you may find one willing to sell a truck on the lot 2-3k off of MSRP just to meet some monthly sales goal or whatever. Those deals can be found in a fairly rare event, but then you have to pay for a flight to go pick up your truck, drive it 10+ hours home, spend a few hundred on gas etc. You may still come out "ahead" on a pure price stand point, but that is a huge amount of time and effort to save a net 1k or so.

In the end the good out of any of these forums is if people are just honest about what they are paying so everyone can really know what the true current market price is for these trucks. As Helopilot put it I do think that asking 3-5k ADM is the norm, and actually buy at MSRP is the norm or maybe even a little below the norm. Not saying that maybe 5% of all buyers are not getting something better than that, but the true norm is most likely MSRP or a little above.

David,

Well said, and I agree with most of what you said. I stumbled upon a local northeast dealer 20 minutes away that had originally listed their Raptor for $2k under sticker. Therefore, when I arrived to inquire, they stated that the internet dept. had made a mistake, but they would honor that price. I visited two other dealers and explained how this particular dealer was willing to go $2k below, and low and behold both dealers were willing to match. Hence, I put a deposit and am purchasing a black one from one of those two. I honestly think that while these vehicles are still widely popular here in the NE, prices are more reasonable and dealers are willing to negotiate some/more?. Apparently, these puppies are really hot out west which is why CA dealers are still trying to get $10k plus above sticker. I am not sure if this trend will continue, but at least some are willing to sell for MSRP. So, maybe a little more patience could pay off.

I just shop around and work through email to see who will play ball. Just bought an 18 Tahoe RST w/ 6.2 this way. Went with the dealer that was the best price and it was 5.5hrs from me. I saved $12k doing this. Makes a difference on a $77k MSRP.

It is area specific and dealers are always going to be more willing to lower price when someone is in person than when they are over the phone. 2K under MSRP IMO is a great price right now and that is awesome that the dealer honored that price.
I am not saying that people can't get deals as of course they can, but to expect to shop a Raptor like a XLT and get dealers low balling each other just to make a sale is not realistic right now. Like anything in a few years buying a Raptor at invoice will likely be common, but just not right now.

Yeah on a Tahoe or F150 I agree 100% that you will see a huge variation in price from dealer to dealer. But right now today you won't see a 12k swing in price on a Raptor (not counting the dealer who is asking 10k ADM, lol).

This is not a plain Jane Tahoe. Try finding a 6.2 RST with the big brake kit. Dealers are charging MSRP for them, and I was lucky to get the deal I did.

In the market I'm in I can't justify giving a discount on a Raptor. Demand too high.

If your demand is so high as you claim, then why do you need to advertise on here?

Pretty ridiculous that you're still trying to get $5k over sticker on a 17 when the 18's are hitting the dealer lots.

not hitting...hit! 1,300 Raptors in the wild across the USA sitting on dealer lots or on the way!

If you still are looking for yours, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...don't pay OVER MSRP! (Well OK, if you wanna toss 'em an $800 bone like I did a month ago...I can live with that). I don't need you paying $5 or $10k over to prop up my value...I'll be just fine.

Also, don't pay for ******** options like stickers if you don't want them. Teach the dealers to order better trucks.

And don't pay over what Flood Ford will sell you an Extended Warranty for!

Let these idiot dealers holding out for ADM on 2017's rot.
