so while hunting a couple weeks ago, we set up camp in the sierras. i happen to arrive about 10:30 pm and had to set up camp. there were no lights as this was a primitive campground. while the bed lights did great at keeping the bed lit up, and the hood lights made for a good spot to set up my tent, i could not see the ground under the tailgate. i came around the back of the truck and my shin hit the tailgate step. didnt feel good, and we had a lot of walking to do the next day. lets just say it wasnt as fun as hunting should be. so after something bad happens, you go look for a fix. well here is my fix for that.

this is wired to a switch so when the step opens, it automatically turns on. and when it closes it automatically turns off.

What switch did you use? I'd like to finally offer my LED lit console covers and the switch is all I need.

for your application, you should use a mercury switch. i used a magnetic reed switch for this. same as my tailgate
