Hi Wilson,

This is for an 8.8, but not the same as what they are making for us. I believe that is for a rear application.

Yeah that's not the correct unit guys. The correct unit has not been released yet.

Again, just to avoid any confusion, I'll go ahead and delete that post. Thank you though Wilson!

BigJ, if I was thinking Sunday morning. I should have let you go play in the mud in my truck. This way you could compare factory torsen, retrofit torsen and wavetech..

If you where to retro fit definitely go with the wavetec but for the 2012 the computerized brake is as close to the wavetec you could get

i asked and talked with dana (one of the two big brains behind the genesis of this design; sincerely it was an honor to meet and talk with him as he's one very smart man) specifically about this, and he assured me that there is nothing special about the wavetrac install over, say, a stock replacement installation. If you have the tools and knowhow to do a stock r&r, you can do a wavetrac. I realize that excludes many folks, myself included, but the good news is any local competent shop can do the work for you. There is no special "wavetrac knowledge" or skill set required.

Ok, that I agree. The install shouldn't be any more unique than going from one mechanical actuated differential to another, unlike going from a mechanical to an electrical or air actuated unit that requires more work. It's just even swapping a stock for stock differential assembly takes more skill, understanding, and specialty tools than most Raptors owners can acquire in the drive way. The aluminum case makes it even more challenging as the case must be spread (as in you're actually flexing the aluminum housing) while being gauged in the thousands of an inch to obtain proper clearance when setting up side bearing preload. A procedure that if not done right (one thousands too much) can crack/destroy the case. This on top of other things not so cut and dry about differential work.

Chris, dana said many times how you are the reason this will be an option for us. We all owe ya a beer dude. Without your efforts, wavetrac would probably not have got interested in what we're doing, and we would have missed out on a significant opportunity. Hats off to you sir, and thanks! :peace:

For sure. It's amazing the aftermarket support the Raptor already has, a lot of that thanks to avid enthusiasts like Chris.

Ack, I hope I didn't mislead anyone. Just to reiterate what I said originally...

"In terms of install, if you've installed a diff before this will be no different, and it won't require any special tools or know how; its something you could do in your driveway."

Cool, cool, It's possible I read it wrong since it was late last night when I initially read your post, but then this morning I saw easy drive-way comment again and thought: woah hold on, not so simple!

Comfortably, a couple months. June or July I think is realistic.

BIGJ, are you going to be able to replace YOUR 2010 front open diff with this?

Just wondering as no one has asked!
I would absolutely love to. But I don't have the cash for it. IMHO, given the wear I know I already have on my cv axels (click here), for me adding the Wavetrac would mean its cost+the cost of new axles+probably the cost of new hubs. That's some serious coin at the end of the day.

For guys without that wear though, or who don't think the cv's will be an issue in general, by all means go for it. Given the choice between open, the Torsen retrofit or a Wavetrac, I'd save up for the Wavetrac unless I could find a good junkyard Torsen for a few hundred bucks.
