Eh g1 was a niche truck that didn't even really have a market at the time.

Please. You realize how ridiculous that is right? A freaking Ferrari La Ferrari is a niche car yet had mass market appeal.

The G2 is a niche truck yet has mass market appeal. That's why manufacturers build halo vehicles. It's draws people to the brand. And for the few that get to own them, they get to enjoy what manufacturers can really do and others get to live vicariously through them.

It's not ridiculous at all, there was literally nothing like it at the time, it was groundbreaking. The gen 2 gets to cruise on gen 1 hype but seems to appeal more to the street truck crowd.

Hype is long gone for the jen I. Gen II stands on its own. It appeals to both the street and off-road crowd as it does a better job doing both. jen I appeals to those who like a V8 because it sounds better, and because now it's cheaper.

See that's the problem. You're making the G2 a new truck. Its not. It's the next generation of the Raptor. It's still a niche truck. There's a lot of G1s where I live, the vast majority are street truck. My G1 only spent about 20% of its time off road. I would venture to say, outside of this forum, that's probably 75% more time off road than most G1 owners.

Everyone is taking this one video to imply all the owner is interested in is street racing. Based on what? It was a convenient comparison and they were to cool to share it with everyone.

I'm sure we will see some other comparisons soon.

See that's the problem. You're making the G2 a new truck. Its not. It's the next generation of the Raptor. It's still a niche truck. There's a lot of G1s where I live, the vast majority are street truck. My G1 only spent about 20% of its time off road. Yeah I guess that's why RPG, Rogue, ADD, and others are already selling G2 components or very quickly designing and getting them ready for market, because the owners drooling to get them want to street race.

And as much as I loved my G1, now that we are getting to see plenty of side by sides, I'm preferring the G2 much more. Freshened and more modern design. Always love the G1, but for me it's time to move on to new truck.

Car and Driver has a new article out in their February issue. They got 0-60 in 5.0 flat and the 1/4 mile at 13.5 seconds @ 106 mph.
