Looking at a 2010 Ford Raptor SVT with under 100k miles.. how expensive to maintain them?

I waited almost 3 years after graduation before purchasing my truck. I used that time to eliminate my student loans and max out my retirement contributions. After that, I was ready to make a poor financial decision, so I purchased my truck and put myself back into debt. I could pay it off today but its financed at a low rate and I'm saving for a house in the hopefully near future.

I don't think there's anything wrong with you buying a truck in your current position, you just need to weigh the financials. Sounds like you know what you want to do. One note - don't limit yourself to just trucks listed in the Midwest. I live in Michigan and found mine listed 16 hours away in Oklahoma. A motivated seller will be happy to video chat with you and go over everything in depth to make sure you are getting what you expect before buying a one-way flight.

I see. There is a solid deal on one in Ann Arbor. I may have to look even further. Financially it wont be a big hit, its just a longer term and like i said, this is more of an enthusiast move and its a good price but its as spotless as it gets for a pavement pounder gen 1. Ill mull it over, some other users had really good points for not getting it.

Live is a constant balance of “you only live once” and you have to be able to afford to live. Finding somewhere in the middle is somewhat hard to do and is a different spot for each person.

Retirement accounts and what not may not be worth much in the future depending on what happens, but at the same time the river tends to right it self and find the same/similar path.

Long story short take in everyone’s advice but make your own decision. If it is a good decision then you’ll be happy, if it is a bad one then you can at least learn from it for the future. No one get’s it right all the time.

Take this as just my opinion/perspective/personal experience.

I was injured in the military(nothing serious) i didnt have a plan getting out that soon but I ended up doing a detailing job which ive been at for 15yrs now. Im not wealthy by any means and also not burdened by huge debt.

I run my vehicles until i cant afford to fix them so the “resale value” means nothing to me. The only reason i got rid of my 2010 tahoe is because the rust got out of hand and i decided to look up raptors since ive wanted one for awhile.

Well I found a ‘13 screw with no rust (very rare to find in the northeast) but it was already over 100k miles and in excellent shape. Im currently changing fluids and fixing up the suspension here soon. Since i keep my vehicles for many years the mileage didn’t bother me. Yeah i paid book value and whatever the tahoe rust was gonna be well over $3000 to fix.

Ok enough rambling lol. Basically if you plane to keep it for years and put money into upkeep on an older higher mileage vehicle in great shape id say live your dreams… i have no regrets on the purchase im on a year into owning it and its still making me smile. Lol.

Lots of good advice in here from the older guys as well, like getting a newer one with the 6.2. Good luck on your decision!

Honestly man id sell the Ridgeline, buy a $5000 suv cash and put 400 in the bank every month. 4800 a year x 3 is 14,400. Buy a Raptor when you are in the black. Thats my opinion. Im out. Good luck.

I know the yearning of wanting a Raptor but I agree with @thatJeppyguy rationale. Don't get me wrong, I want one and all to join the Raptor family but picking up a 2010 (least desirable year/engine) at your #s is a no go, especially knowing you'll spend $1.5K to $3K for post-purchase maintenance. GL brotha man!

Side note, I picked up my Gen1 with 115K at $34,500. In a blink of an eye, I've sank another $10K in maintenance/upgrades. Wanted the Gen3, but I couldn't justify a $100K truck because in the end... its just a truck, not a porsche. So I plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off and redirect the extra dough I have to more affordable but just as enjoyable things... like a Harley Low Rider ST ; )
