Not true. Car companies will always try to improve on known issues. So your logic is that 17 built reliability will be exactly the same as the 2021 built? really?
I spoke to Ford Performance before placing my 18 order. I ask about the transmission issue that's been reported everywhere. He told me they already sent out a service bulletin to all the dealers on that issue. The fix is already being implemented. Of course the truck is exactly the same as the 17, but they do try to fix and update known issues. He said "engineering" is always on-going. so in theory, the longer you wait, the more reliable it should be.

really stupid logic
Any '17 made after the first few months will have the same issues and build reliability of a '18. They did not change anything meaningful or the way they are produced. I know that goes against what sounds like logic but it doesnt work that way. Sorry
But, if you want to get a '18 becuase of value or the slight changes they made then that makes sense to go that route. At this point, I would probably try to get an '18, but not because it will be any more reliable than a later build '17.
