It’s part of the top cap. Makes it easier to thread on / off the top cap

If that's the case, then shame on me and I apologize for bad info. Never seen that design before. I'll have to check out mine next time I service them. I put zero preload into them, my top collar is spun all the way up.

Confirmed, here's the reply from FOX:

"No, the lock ring is for the shock cap and should not be adjusted. The pinch bolt for the preload ring, torque setting for 1/4-28 X 1.50 Socket Head Cap Screw 12 ft lbs"

Folks - I’m in the middle of my garage install of Fox 3.0. Seams all my instructions, hardware, etc is missing from my front shocks package. Put in an urgent call and email to my vendor, but I’m on a return call list…for next week.

Can’t find an exploded view of the front (part 883-06-046) only the rear. I’m desperate to at least connect my shock top into the strut correctly.

Need specifications for the three top bolts that screw down from the top into the shock.
