Thought I would follow up on the friction modifier. I spoke with a Ford Tech and service adviser today and they currently had 3 Raptors in for service, one of which was a 2013 and all were in for rear diff oil changes (the 2013 only had 10,000 miles but apparently the guy totally submerged the engineer and caused $21K damage, including new engine), any way, he went on to explain that even though it has ELD, unless you modify the rear diff to constantly lock it, you would need to add the modifier.

If anyone hears others, I'd be interested in knowing.

The rear does NOT need friction modifier under any conditions. Friction modifier fluid is for the fiber clutch packs that must slip to avoid chatter when turning in the Ford limited slip differentials. The friction modifier actually reduces friction in the clutch pack. I've rebuilt and fixed a shit ton due to chatter and one of the first thing you do is soak the new clutches in friction modifier. The Raptor does not use that type of limited slip. There are no clutch packs for the friction modifier to soak into. By adding it all you're doing is wasting money.

Pirate so the front on the 2012 needs the friction modifier?

IIRC I'm going to say no on the friction modifier for the front torsion diff. I'd have to look it up to be 100% but I'd follow what the owners manual states.

Hey I know this is a minor thing but to keep the cover looking good after I detail the truck out will just give the cover a very light spray of the one step wheel cleaner or tire dressing if you dont have any. Makes it shine like new!!!

Pirate. Thanks for the clarification. So will I cause damage to my rear dif because I added the friction modifier? Should I drain and refill without the friction modifier? Todd
