I agree, less head due to them. It is a good point though, I should measure the size of wire and see what it's rated for too. For reverse lights on a Ford, they only come on when in reverse which isn't all that long. I think you'd be good, but I'll look into it and test the wire when I install them before putting the tails back in.....just to be safe. :)

Like I said, Raptor owner of the month... Thanks for all your help. I see you even have a cutout thread going... :rockit:

No load resistors for the front amber blinkers...was told there is not enough drop in current to cause the hyper flash...although...there are no guarantees...I have researched and purchased LED for the tails...due to the colored housing I did not notice any real difference over the stock bulbs vs. the LEDs and yes you will need resistors or so e module to go LEDs in your tails...

This is a GREAT write up and will save a lot of time and money for folks...Thanks for the thread....

Do you have to get resisters with the aftermarket led smoked tail lights or are they built in?

I am not 100% sure...I would guess you would need to install the resistors separately...since each vehicle needs different resistors for their lights...I just did not see a big enough difference in the LEDs in the Raptor tails to justify to swap out...

I am just not a fan of resistors...they generate a great deal of heat and don't know if they could cause additional electrical issues down the road...

I am sure there will be LEDs with a resistor built in...and they might even be available...but I can't find any...plus I would think the cost would be expensive...

Sorry I am not much help...

I am considering doing this mod...

Interesting find. Sounds like it has potential to be vast improvement over stock bulb. Also, did a quick check and it looks like Sylvania's mentioned run about $9.00 at local parts store, so it could be big bang for money. Concern of heat has crossed my mind, probably yours as well. Don't want to have the housing melt-down, but being truck is usually in reverse for such brief periods, unsure if this would be a genuine prob. Looking forward to seeing if you go ahead with this.

I wouldn't be too worried about the housing with LED's, but i wonder what the wires used are good up to.

I wouldnt worry about the wires. 25w is only just barely over 2 amps vs the stock bulb's 18 watts which is 1.5 amps. Plus they wouldnt be on for very long periods of time to get a chance to really beat up

Yeah my concern was primarily the wires, because LED or standard halogen, wattage is wattage. The issue with headlights is stock ones are typically 35w low 55w high and guys were doing like 75w low 95w high replacements, so just about doubled the current draw. The reverse lights may not be a problem at all, but just wanted to get those thoughts rolling ahead of time to be cautious.

I'd be more concerned with heat buildup in the cargo lamp than the reverse lights, because as you said the reverse lights are usually only on a brief amount of time, but the cargo lamps can stay on for a bit while longer for any period of time.

You shouldn't need to install resistors with LED replacement tails, they should come built in to the assembly I would think. LED replacement bulbs for the stock tails, now that you may need to install some. Seems you can get away with the front turn signals as LEDs with no resistors, but not the rears.

As far as resistors causing additional electrical issues down the road, that really shouldn't be any issue at all, resistors are one of the most basic types of electronic components lol. Make sure you have good connections, and mount the resistor up so it's not flapping around dangling, they usually come with heat syncs built into the body and mounting holes.

AMB is working with me and letting me return my kit for a full refund, so I'll be using some of these links to order up my own stuff. Thanks again for this thread!

I'll check when they come in, but I don't for see any issues. Cargo lights may be an issue, but I'd be willing to bet the wires can handle the extra 0.5A... The factory would over size the wires as a safety thing.

Our headlights are 35w low? Typically lows are 55w, fog lights usually vary around 35w or less.

Alright I got antsy and putting my hard earned cash that those are #74 bulbs. This is what I got, once I verify I'll update the original post.

Yes indeed, but like you said the lights aren't on very long at all. I found it on a Honda element forum.. go figure. There were a couple guys using 50 watt bulbs but I don't wanna go that high. 38 watt seems fine to me and I ordered a bulb for $6.42. I'll post the results this weekend
