if you use your spare in a tire rotation...do you lose TPMS?

I want to do tire rotation every 5k utilizing the spare tire.

Have not crawled under there yet. I assume the spare is a full size and normal wheel, but I also assume it has no TPMS.

Anyone have a strategy for this?

I would assume you should buy a tpms for your spare and rotate it in but I'm not sure if the truck will be confused or not by too many sensors. Maybe ask your service tech?

yeah...seems like a lot of cost to dismount 2 tires to swap the TPMS over every 5k.

you just need the little $14 tpms reset fob. Takes all of 2 mins when you rotate tires.

I think i finally found the tire for me, so I'm not so worried about it as I wont have to worry about disparate tires even when i replace one.

The truck will relearn the tires and there location within a few miles no need to reset anything. At least on my 17 that’s how it’s worked so far.

It does, but the little fob is handy to just reset instantly and not have the tpms receivers get confused for the first few miles. I guess for $14 it would be worth it to me.

So the spare has a TPMS sensor in it already?

Spare Tire and Wheel

Your vehicle is equipped with an

LT315/70R17 spare tire. The spare

tire/wheel assembly has the same

capability as the road tire/wheel

assembly, but is not equipped

with a tire pressure monitoring

sensor.
