You wouldn't believe the volume of customer complaints and warranty cost caused by that one feature. It was always "customer states trip meter inoperative with 2 lines in front of the numbers". Dealers were replacing Instrument Panel Clusters because the stupid trip meter was paused. Consumer acceptance and response is a huge factor in which features get added and removed throughout model years.

Yeah, but replacing that with "Paused, press OK to resume" would have solved it too.

The "Gauge Mode" option on the Gen1 downright pissed me off. There was one gauge, Transmission Temp (which also had an analog readout). They'd set up two screens for it, with the second one being "intentionally blank" according to manual. Very much looks like a case where the designers originally planned to add useful data (as was done on Mustang a year later), but the idea got canned.

Entirely understand that these things have to be designed for morons who can't open manual or type something into a search engine, but the "solutions" automakers come up with are often worse.

And Ford is *FAR* from the only automaker guilty of this crap. And overall I'm thankfully nothing in the electronics really constantly annoys me, which I cannot say for many other vehicles.

Despite being an enormous improvement over my 2011, Ford still can't design UIs in my opinion. I'm also bugged by "My View" and the fact that it's called "Digital Speedometer". How about we ditch the Windows-95-style "My" terminology and also just label it "Speedometer"? I'm picking nits for sure here though.

It's also annoying that there is no ability to pause the Trip1/2 with the OK button is lame (2011 could do it).

The analog speedometer obscures the LCD panel. Wouldn't it be awesome if the speed was ALWAYS shown digitally in the lower left corner of the speedometer, in the exact same way the gear indicator is shown in the tach? Would have been trivial to do this during design phase and would not have cost anything.

Why is it possible to show/hide the gear indicator? Confuses the heck out of people when it disappears and they can't figure out how to get it back. If you *really* think it's important to be able to hide the gear indicator, put an option in settings.

Why is the fuel economy history data so colossally bad? They actually made it less useful than on the 2011, which is truly an amazing feat. They could do one simple screen that shows recent history, last-minute history and instant fuel economy quite cleanly. I'm gonna have to sell this POS and get a Prius.

Don't get me wrong... overall I like the 802A display and am seriously insanely happy overall with my truck. But as someone who writes UI crap for a living, it just seems like Ford's implementation is still really weak here.

I absolutely agree with this. However, the new UI (that comes with the digital IP) on the new MY21+ F150's is impressive. I've seen a few and they are better in every way than what we have on our trucks.

What the hell does that have to do with the price of rice in China?
Something petty and inconsequential bothers you enough to complain out loud and try to change it. Isn’t that what snowflake means? I was making a joke.

Never understood calling somebody a snowflake. Where I come from a snowflake is something that falls from the sky in winter.

Give me imperial units damnit. If I wanted metric numbers, I’d go to Europe.

As well it should. One day you’re complaining about the press ok for km/h and the next thing you know metric speed signs are going up around you. I’ll be the dash console is programed to subliminally flash “think metric” at us every 3-5 seconds just to get us on board.

Back in the later '70's - early 80's there was a big push for us to go metric. They even had some km/hr signs up on highways. Everyone was saying we were switching, then the whole movement just faded away.

The big one cut that we miss is Live PD, everyone needs to send AE a note that everyone was equally represented in that show.

Do stupid things get stupid results, fords apple car play and displays are not cutting edge for sure.
