your plates get viewed by thousands of people on the road every day. what makes the internet any different?

Nice pics. Can't a knowledgeable user with Photoshop remove layers like blurring? May depend on final image format.

But again, as @goblues38 said, what stops anyone who's driving around and sees your truck in person from getting the exact same information that you're trying to block by blurring out the plates online? If some thief who lives in the same area as you sees your truck in person, I'd guess they'd be much more likely to look up whatever info they can find online and come pay you a visit compared to a thief on the internet who lives hundreds (or thousands) of miles away...

I don't entirely disagree with your point. But the difference is that, on the road, I am just one of many others and assuming I'm driving courteously I am not giving anyone any reason to pay a bit of attention to me. Also, once I drive by you, I am gone forever. And as careful as I am to not be "that guy" on forums, I can't be sure that I won't say something to **** off some psychopath so I don't want to make it too easy to figure out who I am. You are right that a psychopath can decide to target me because he happened to pull up behind me at a stoplight. But in my estimation that is less likely to happen when there's no actual communication happening (and, again, I am driving courteously).

Finally nothing is ever erased from the Internet and it's hard to anticipate how bad guys might try to use "personal identifiers" in the future. Or even today: Imagine a scenario where, on a forum, you say, "I really like to speed!" and you then post pics with your plates in clear view in a completely unrelated thread. You later get into an injury accident and the lawyers start googling your information. Images can be searched, your license plate photo is found, it's linked back to the forum, and the plaintiff's attorney has years of posts where you were bragging about reckless driving. You're doomed even if you were just blowing smoke.

Good fences make good neighbors, and "privacy" is the Internet equivalent, neighbor.

well...i have personal plates...so i have learned not to be a jerk when i drive....easy to remember EN4SER with a big Blue Note.

But unless you work at the DMV......or you are a cop......you can't find anything out about anyone by their plate.
