My wife hates every car I ever bought including this one.
My wife isn’t that opposed to my vehicle choices, but... how do I respectfully say this? ... let’s just say, she’s not an enthusiast. She has a long and distinguished history of cheap, peasant cars. I hate peasant cars.
I am talking cheaper than a bare bones rental. I did get some input into the last 3 as follows.
2005 - her ’98 ****** gave up the ghost after 198k miles. got her into a loaded Murano.
2011 - Murano was a high maintenance car. Traded on a Subaru, 2011 Legacy. that’s been a solid reliable car.
2021 - Subaru still going, but, maintenance getting expensive, and I know some issues that can come up past the 10 year mark on the S00b so I’ve been
nagging pestering suggesting to her we need to be looking for a car.
I Jokingly suggested a GINORMOUS Super Duty, I got “The look”.
At recent stealership visit for maintenance, we toured Edge & Explorer ST.
Fun Fact: same 3.0TT EcoBoost in the ST, also used in the Lincoln MKZ hmm...
a PM conversation with
@FordTechOne was in order. He’s a fan, did a great comparison and what to look for break down for me. I drove both.
Explorer ST is legit. Great ride, very responsive, not noisy, planted, sure footed. Easy to like.
MKZ is no slouch. Greater ride, slight edge on the 20 speaker revel stereo, slightly more comfy, massaging seats than the ST, nothing to really dislike. Based on her preference for cars over big vehicles, I scheduled a test drive on the MKZ after showing her my PM discussion with FTO. She was like “wah, wah, wah that’s a lot of money, wah, wah wah”. I reminded her she just dumped 2500 bucks on the s00b this year.
Ride home from the test drive: “when are we picking up the car?”
After being married this long, I’m learning.
Now we have a shared car, keep the S00b for routine duties, etc.
MKZ is a hoot. 400/400 hp/tq. I’m having a devil of a time getting a decent launch, AWD be damned.
I almost bought it for Christmas, but I thought she’d get bent out of shape just deciding for her so I decided to let her decide to like it. That worked.
