For those familiar with or using Dashcommand, how does it calculate hp? How accurate is it?

Because mine told me I maxed out at 510hp. I know the tunes are awesome, but not 100hp awesome, right?

On a side note, it's interesting to see how little hp we use during daily driving...

I don't know how they work . I know these trucks don't have any where near the 411 at the wheels . So with that said the number is even further off from what's at the tire. Tim

I'd guess it is using the accelerometer in your phone and calculating based off that. Try going downhill, I bet you have 1000 horsepower if the hill is steep enough.

520hp is as high as I've been able to get it. It seems tied to RPMs, not speed.

Oh, and this is coming from the information fed to the Nexus from the OBDLink. It is a "calculated" value, meaning it's not reported by the ECU or any sensors, like the temperature, rpms, etc.

It will be using inertial sensors and gps data and speed to calculate the number. Out of curiosity why did you chose dashcommand over torque?

I have both. Torque isn't calculating hp or torque for me. I like the Dashcommand skins and gauges a lot more. More choices and customizations. But they're for naught if the info is inaccurate.

Got it to 560hp. Now I know that ain't right.

Nope, it was one of the choices. But I built the gauges myself, so i guessed at what the temp ranges were supposed to be and where the redline was.

You can't really expect an accurate measure of HP from any OBD2 device. Only real method is using a dyno. Then again, if it allows you to see if your mods or tuning are increasing or decreasing power, then it serves a purpose. Just have fun with it, and appreciate it for what it is. Also, I wouldn't walk around telling people your truck has 560 hp, someone might call you on it and you'll look dumb. :)
