How do you put your truck in park?

Rookies. I just come to a stop and turn it off. It shifts into park by itself. On the Gen3 at least.

So... For Jen Too Raptor at least, if you engage the parking brake while in gear, you get REALLY obnoxious chimes and dash warning. I’ve never tried going to N first, then brake, then park but nevertheless, it seems to me that Ford disagrees with Offroadeo.

Also, I’d caution our northern crew about the parking brake. in really low temperatures they will freeze in place. I’ve not had it happen --to me-- but a neighbor did.

Back in the day the parking brake freezing was real but I haven't heard of this of late. Last winter I drove in slush and when I got to my destination the truck would not let me shift into park so I put it in neutral and turned it off. A couple of hours later it was back to normal. I think the linkage iced up.

Well I guess when you do something wrong for many years you get good at it.

I learned something valuable at the Bronco Offroadeo. How to park a vehicle with an auto transmission.

Procedure:
-press the brake to come to a stop
-engage the parking brake
-take foot off of btake
-put transmission in N
-then put in P

I’m doing the from now on. Be kind to your tranny.

1. Apply brake to come to a stop
2. Continue to hold brake, shift to N
3. Apply Parking Brake
4. Shift to Park

Either ....

1. Apply brake to come to a stop, shifting into neutral just prior to stopping.

2. Continue to hold brake, shift to N

Or add ...

2a. Take foot off brake.
2b. Apply brake if hill.

3. Apply Parking Brake
4. Shift to Park

But I stand by my earlier comment. If you can't just come to a stop and put it into park without any consequence whatsoever, no matter how many times you do it, the designer should be fired.

Flat or gentle slope... put it in park, turn it off.

Steep slope, where the pinion gear is going to have a lot of pressure on it? Stop, Neutral, Parking Brake, Off Brake, Put it in Park, turn it off.

On a hill, I come to a stop, I keep my foot on the brake, shift into neutral, apply parking brake, take foot off brake, shift to park, unbuckle the seat belt of my goat, get in a quick one, clean myself up a little, enjoy the rest of my day.
