Paddle shifters are pointless on a truck. Its not like the trans is even a dual clutch anyway. I have re-wired my paddle shifters to be more functional. The - is the flame throwers and the + is the machine guns. This is way more practical.

What does the lack of having a dual clutch have to do with anything?

Do you understand why/when a dual clutch would be warranted?

I tried M today, works as prescribed, only noting that it still downshifts on its own when I come to a complete stop

I personally like the paddles. This truck is the first automatic vehicle I've ever owned. I've driven a manual/stick since I could drive. All that said, it feels weird not doing any of the shifting now, so the paddles serve to keep me engaged. Plus it runs better that way.

For me, normal is too lazy between shifts and sport, unless you're really on it, holds the gears too long. IMO, Sport M is the best of both worlds. Throttle response is much better and I decide when to shift. A bonus is I actually get better MPG in Sport M.

Sounds like I should get a Pedal Commander.

I've owned automatics with "manual shift" since 2004. Somewhere along the line I discovered that I got better mpg on long freeway trips (multiple tanks of gas) when I left the vehicle in "manual" and stayed in top gear. I'm waiting for a 2018 raptor, so can't tell if the raptor will get better mileage.
