Man, after all that, no way I'm putting a tune on my truck if I had to fork over for a new motor.

I'm glad you got it back on the road though.

There is nothing to break in as far as the engine goes- other than rings, and wide open throttle as early as possible is the best way to do that.
Yes sir. And it's been done. Multiple times. And I'll do a few more. Just want to change the plugs cause I'm sure they are gapped to 30. Also it has a stock T-stat and will be swapping in a 170 as well. So I'll do an oil change while I'm there. Do those before datalogging.

WTF that is weird.
Was going to answer but @EricM gave a great answer.
That is flame cutting of the block.

Too much cylinder pressure led to a head gasket failure. Combustion gets past the head gaskets and melts/vaporizes the aluminum block metal on it's way out.

Pretty similar to a oxy acetylene cutting torch...

On diesel engines they cut through the piston, all the way to the connecting rod. Normally a bad fuel injector in those cases.
