Recently added a motion detector that connects via wifi to my home security system. Used the same motion detector used in the house and arms/disarms with the home alarm system.

It only works when in range of my home alarm system and is really there to deal with those that open doors to steal stuff out of the car.

Just have to remember to arm/disarm the home system when I am a few miles away from the house when in the vehicle.

I am sure there is better out there but this just cost $30 for the additional motion detector.

No garage to park in? Seems like this would be a head ache.
Garage is full with other toys.

Actually it's not much of a headache. The way its configured there isn't anything else I have to do. The coming and going piece has been solved by just having it send a text message when the alarm is set when away from the home.

For $30 it's worth the additional layer of security.

I like the concept. Until it wakes everyone in the hood up because a cat jumped on your hood :)

Since I don't care for cats I'm ok with that. Actually it won't pickup motion through a windshield, no different than inside the house.

For example the motion detectors inside the house aren't triggered when the gardner is outside cutting the grass.

I tested it in text only mode and it triggered when entering the cabin space and not through a windshield.

Why not just add the same motion sensor to the exterior of your house? I have one screwed under the soffits above the garage. When tripped, it turns on the driveway lights, which is much nicer than your standard motion flood lights that everyone recognizes and no one bats at eye at anymore.

It's not a bad concept, but for me that falls firmly into the "cool, but I'll quit using it after the novelty wears off" category.

I'm afraid mounting a motion external to the house will cause it to be triggered by cats and other animals leading to more alarms

Based on how it is set, there is nothing I have to do different.

Pics of how it is configured and the text alerts. Notice it's set for instant trigger and when the alarm is activated in home mode is when it will send 5.0

In Away mode I have it set for text alone (Secret Alert) since this will avoid me having to turn the alarm off when approaching the house. Now I'll just receive text messages.
