Hi Jonathan. Please just listen in on my little story for a bit. I was 16 years old just like you when my parents bought me a fully loaded fx4 with everything on it. At the time I was all about saying I would take care of it and just all full of excitement since I was getting a badass truck. So time goes on and I get the truck. Loved it and couldn't of been happier. Over time I started to trash it more around my buddies because that's what all 16 year olds do eventually. Granted I never totaled it but I put all kinds of dings and dents in it because I was not a very experienced driver then.

I don't dislike that they bought the truck for me because I was a lot more mature than kids in my high school were. BUT, that doesn't mean I treated that truck with the respect that it should of been treated with. I learned a lesson by myself over time of owning that truck that I noticed that I should have done more to earn that nice of a vehicle.

Now I'm 21 and have paid my parents back for that truck because I wanted to do the right thing. I have also worked my ******* ass off to buy a raptor in full pretty much and even at my AGE that is crazy. What I'm saying is I guess is having a raptor at that age you may think you will respect it, but you won't I guarantee. But if you want it so be it! And if you do, congrats! Altough I wonder your parents theory on this. Just my 02. cents. Best of luck to you either way buddy. Don't take it personal with anything I said.

Oh good lord... you're going to hate me for this Jonathan, but I AM going to get on you for your age.. You're about to be 16, I can't even reconcile the stupid shit I wanted, or dreams I had at 16. How long is this infatuation with a Raptor really going to last for you? 6 months, 1 year, then are you going to beg your mommy and daddy for a camero? hell, go big, how about a lambo?? And of course your "hard earned" Raptor is going to be useless because you beat the hell out of it, like any good 16 year old would.

Are you going to go to college Jonathan?... I suppose you expect your parents to pay for that as well? How about helping to get you a house? What about your wedding?

How about you save them a little financial heartache and use your 8k to buy a nice used truck... Then they can save their 30-40k additional to pay for your college. If you still want a Raptor when you have your finances in order and can actually afford it, I say go for it!

I'll tell you a little story about a kid I went to high school with. At 18 he cashed in on a trust fund of about 120k. He bought a new truck, a new car, who knows what the hell else. Not even 2 years later he was flat broke, had totaled the car, sold the truck for a beater and was trying his damnedest to get into a Union with his high school tech degree. A hard lesson to learn if you ask me.

And no, this isn't Jealousy talking, I could really give a crap about vehicles and was ecstatic with my 94 cavalier my dad bought me at 16... I was even ecstatic with the shitbox 05 Neon, he got cheap for us a couple years ago.. a perfect 4th vehicle for us.

Whatever, I'm sure I'm wasting my time here, so...... We financed 40k at a rate of 2.5% and our payment is $714 a month for 5 years. That was roughly 12k down with PA tax and title and a hell of a deal from the dealership. You parents could possible extend the loan terms for a lower payment. And no, the 2012's are not going to go down much when the 2013's come out. Good luck, give your parents my best and be sure to post up pictures of your Raptor when you total it!:lol2:

:GetMoney:
Awh gee mom aren't you being a little hard on the boy. Are you gettin ready to have some kids ? this sounds very mom ish, yall got that big back seat to fill up.

Now to the 15 yr old. Don't be silly protect your willy !
That would be great if you could get a Raptor but really, getting some sort of education will pay off more in the long run. Do not let some woman get your "man juice" and then guess what No Raptor ! Good Luck to you, stay out of trouble and stop reading all this grown up stuff we postin on here.

You need to do what makes you happy, but listen to a lot of what is being said by the others as it makes a lot of sense. You have a long ways to go in life and a lot of responsibilities ahead too. My first car was a cutlass supreme and I treated it like it was the best vehicle ever...over the years I have had a lot of great luxury cars, but the only one that ever made me feel the way I did about my first car was the Raptor. So take your time and worry about things that are going to be more important to spend money on and when you do finally get a Raptor you will fully appreciate it. Just my 2 cents and in the end do what makes you happy but think it through before you do. Good luck!

Actually as a 16 year old I wouldn't suggest he do what makes him happy. If I did everything that made me happy as a kid I would be dead...just saying. He's 15 and it seems his parents are willing to write a $50,000 check to make their kid happy. No matter what anyone here says he's not going to go tell his parents no...I wouldn't when I was that age!!

In response to the OP's request...autotrader.com. Take your time and don't take the first truck you find. Look for scratches on the skid plates and the cab where the bed meets the cab. You don't want to buy a truck like my first Raptor :waytogo: With the numbers your trying to get you need to look at SCabs w/out nav. SCrews with nav at that price are difficult, at best, to come by.

I guess it came off as being hard on him because I was using his name. Too bad I don't know his middle name, then he would really be in trouble. :Nonono:

Its funny though, because none of the other young guys on here bother me, even the other 16 year old. I guess I get the impression from them that their parents can afford to get them Raptors.

From Jonathan, I get the impression that all they can afford is the 8k down and 5-600 per month. That gets me riled up. I really don't know their financial situation and would hope that they really understand their budget and what gas and insurance is going to cost them, since I get the impression that this young man's idea of helping is asking questions here on this forum. But what if one losses their job, etc... Maybe I'm wrong and Jonathan can clear this up. Maybe he is planning on helping??

I could never fathom asking that of my Dad (Of course my Dad was supporting his wife and me at that time on the same amount I came right out of my undergrad making). Again, I don't know his parents situation, but seriously!!. My Dad didn't give me any money at his age. I started working at 14, that money paid for my school lunch, eventually it paid for my gas ($1.25 per gallon, dropped to $.98 my senior year of high school:pepper:) and whatever stupid stuff 16 year olds do.

He got my car for a song and a dance but had to put breaks and rotors on a couple times a year because I drove like a maniac. He also put me on triple A because the re-treads he put on my car liked to shred and I did stupid things like lock the keys in with the car running... even still, we are talking 5-600 per year.

Sheesh... Kids these days. I blame the hippies! :yuno: Y U NO discipline your youngest children!!!

Ok here I am again, I was a little shy to respond due to embarrassment, but Im back . And for all of those who saw my other A ROCK GUY thread, I know it was a pathetic and stupid attempt that I didn't think about:lol2:. Anyways I have read all of what everyone has said and it has kind of opened my eyes a little bit. And for some of the questions you all have been asking, I will answer them. For my parents financial situation, I come from a very privelged family and my father makes several hundred thousand a year. And this is the reason I was going to be able to get a Raptor. My parents obviously have a lot of other things to pay for (I know every other person in the world does too, I am just explaining my standpoint) and they add up to where its not as simple as outright buying a brand new Raptor. But on top of this my Grandparents and Great Grandma wanted to help pay for my car. So I have several different people wanting to help out. I know I may get crap for being spoiled, but like many of you were saying at your age you would have taken the car, and here I am, and my family is wealthy enough to get it for me. But after reading some of these threads I think I might just go with a F-150. It is a lot cheaper and yes I will probably beat the hell out of it with my 16-year-old driving. I would love a Raptor, but you all and my logic have made me think otherwise. Well, time will tell, so goodbye I hope to be on this forum with a Raptor one day:party28:.
