I have a 2019 with 5600 miles. I have an aftermarket front bumper and was driving last weekend it and my wrench light and engine light came on and went into limp mode. The codes were powertrain malfunction/reduced power and malfunction indicator lamp-regulatory. So I dropped it off at my dealer on Monday night and they called me today and said the issue was because of my bumper. They said since I took off my lower grill shutters the motor for the shutters is just spinning and is causing all of the codes. They said I needed to reinstall my factory bumper and make it completely back to stock before they could try and troubleshoot it more. WTH? Has anyone else heard of anything like this??

Im a bit unclear of your question.

1). Are you concerned that the installation of this bumper has triggered the codes as suggested by the dealer and that the install was incorrect? Or

2). You're wondering why your expectation of warranty work being performed on aftermarket modifications is not being honoured by the dealership?

Either way I don't see how this is a "fail" on the dealers part.

I had a similar issue with my Ford car. Couple of weeks ago warning light came on and car went into limp mode. Pulled the car off the road and let it sit for awhile, started it back up and it ran fine.

Took it to the dealer the next day and codes were showing that the active shutters failed. Stated it could have been just a piece of road debris that hit it causing the code and limp mode. They refreshed it and sent me on my way.

Good luck with your truck!

Hey thanks for your reply! My concern is that I dont see how a bolt on bumper would cause multiple codes including a powertrain malfunction code. It's an add pro bolt on bumper and I'd say there are thousands of them installed with no issues. So I'm thinking my dealer is just trying to blame it something other than the truck. First they tried blaming it on the borla Atak exhaust then they asked if I had a tune then they said it was the bumper. So pretty much from the start it felt like they were fishing and trying to pass the buck! I'd understand not wanting to honor my warranty if I had a tune and the motor blew but for a bumper??

Are your shutters still active? I believe that most with aftermarket bumpers and I/C's have disconnected them.
The radiator ones are but the lower ones aren't because you have to take them off for the bumper. Per the instructions for the lower shutters you leave it plugged in and zip tie the lower motor up out of the way.

Easy. new bumper, changes the air flow on the front of the car. your shutters may still be "working", but since the air flow is changed they may not be producing the same effect.

The cars computer says .....

"if" I open the shutters....
"then" there should be a x drop in temperature.....
"else" throw this code....
"and" retard performance to prevent damage......

You have to be very careful when doing any modes on a modern car. If the computer gets out of it's thresholds, it's fail safe is to go to limp mode.

Understood! I'm wondering how there are so many on this forum that has done bumpers and haven't had any issues. Maybe something different on 19's?

FYI, I have an ADD Pro bumper also, and if you leave the shutter motor unplugged completely, it will not throw any codes. Leaving the motor plugged in will eventually cause a fault. Trying unplugging your motor and clearing DTCs, run that for a while and see how it does.
