Having trouble with a weak Homelink signal for your garage opener?

PRO TIP : from “My Garage Door Guy”
DONT USE LED BLUBS IN YOUR OPENER he told me in interferes with the signal. I have no idea what he’s talking about but it worked.
I was having the same problem, aggravating as a MFer.
Changed bulbs, I can open it 1/2 block away..

I swapped out to an LED bulb in the opener in my main garage and it didn’t make a diff. I think may be some of the cheaper or older ones perhaps? There probably is some truth to it.

Had a similar problem. Figured out that it wasn’t the truck. We had upgraded the Wi-Fi in my home to the latest available and put the entire house on a 13 zone mesh network. My garage door opener was about 12 years old. Changed the wall mount control to a newer unit. Problem was solved immediately. Apparently, the Wi-Fi signal was strong enough to be interfering with the remote signal.

I had a 2015 and the home link was horrible. It would not work a lot of the time if I was pulling out (cause I backed in the driveway) vs if I was backing out of the driveway. If there was anything between the truck and the garage, the home link would not work. Anytime I was pulling out to go camping I had ti get out of the truck an shut the garage without the homelink. I even went as far as changing what button it was set to thinking “maybe the button was worn out” and when pushed, it was not sending the signal even though the light indicated it was pushed.

The flip side, my 2019 Raptor works a 150yds away. It always opens the garage door on the first button push no matter what. Nothing changed in the house/opener including the LED’s. Only change was the homelink

I have a hard time understanding how the LED bulbs effect the opener. Maybe if they are on but not when they are off. If there is no power going to the LED, how can they cause interference.

I was told about the LED bulbs effecting signal as well. I've always had LED's since house was new in 2016. I've never had a problem until now. I can open from 100yds away, but when backing out and leaving, the dam door will not close 8/10 times. I'm going to change my bulbs. '18 Raptor, '18 Expy, '20 Explorer. All the same.

I've seen some "garage opener" LED specific bulbs out on the market as well....

Maybe it’s coincidence, or maybe some other reason but it wasn’t from interference. Garage openers (specifically homelink that’s it your truck) operate in the 288mhz to 433mhz range, your wifi is going to be 2.4ghz or 5ghz so no chance of interference.
