JUST HAD MY DOOR REPAIRED.HAD 8" GASH.CANT TELL IT WAS THERE.I WAS AFRAID IT WASNT GOING TO BE REPAIRABLE BEING ALUM.IT WORKED GREAT.

I'm interested to hear how it works on Al, post up as the work progresses. I have a shop that does incredible PDR work, but I've only seen them work steel.

If mine were totaled due to hail, after fixing the glass, I'd be tempted to buy it back and put the money into full on pre-runner mods.

PDR on aluminum is not an issue. I had a 2010 Expedition with an Aluminum hood that had golf ball size hail destroy it. PDR guy repaired it back to perfection.

Would never know it was damaged.

With regard to PDR. Do Not let a body shop tell you "that is as good as it can be repaired" that is normally said by a shop with a novice PDR tech trying to get you out of their shop and your money into their pocket. To many hail chasers and hard to figure out the good techs, look at the truck inside the shop and move your head around while looking at where the dents were using the inside lights reflection to look for imperfections. A good PDR guy will leave marks that look like orange peel at worst. If they only want to show it out side they are not too proud.

I had this issue with my 17' F350, a lacrosse ball made a good dent in the aluminum door panel in the crease, a very good PDR tech can fix it, but it will be costly.

My 2015 F-150 got nailed in a hail storm was only 6 months old they replaced the hood, roof and all plastic trim then PDR on the body panels 3 months later the car was presented I rejected as the sealer finish on the roof panel was terrible (looked like they finger painted it) the windscreen looked crocked at the roof line by about 1/2" and the interior was covered in aluminum debris. Second repairer got it looking like new after a couple of goes total cost of repair well over $20k plus 16 weeks of truck rental.

Aluminum PDR's pretty similarly to mild steel. I would certainly try that first, as you will likely not get an insurance company to total a 35-75K raptor for a roof skin, hood,.. heck you could replace fenders door skins and bed skins and paint it complete and still not be at a total loss. That being said, I fell you. I wouldn't want my new 19 to need a roof skin, but I have spend 35 years in the collision industry, - replacing a roof skin is really not that big of deal, and the truck can certainly be very close to pre-accident condition afterward. The only thing that may be lacking is anytime you disturb factory corrosion protection, its near impossible to restore is as the factory did. That being said, most insurance companies will offer a lifetime guarantee if you you their preferred shop- past that, make sure that the shop is Ford Aluminum certified, has separate aluminum repair bays and tools....

A little background, I worked in a bodyshop for 16 years, I have owned quite a few show cars, I am picky. I now maintain a fleet of 150ish cars, same shop that does my fleet stuff will do my personal, as he was my contact before he was theirs.

He knows how picky I am, it is not a secret. Lol

PDR is the only way I want this fixed, but, I have no pano roof, and a couple of the roof rails have some dents on the edges, so we will see. Insurance guy when I filed the claim asked what model f150 it was, when I said raptor, there was silence, then an oh.

I had a trailblazer totaled out 3 years ago, it had 30k on it, had 4-5k worth of damage, I wouldn’t accept the way they wanted to repair it, they paid me 28k for a almost 7yo truck that I had paid 32k for new, I guess it’s all in the presentation?

The roof is the worse. Lots of damage including the sunroofs being broken. The sides of the bed, doors, and windshield frame have smaller dents, but’s lots of them. The adjuster said they would replace the roof and probably the door panels and PDR the windshield frame and bed.

Trucks 3 months old and I’m terrified it won’t be quiet like it is now with all the work.
