Question for all you owners...

Has anyone gutted out their catalytic converter? Maybe post up a sound clip if you have...

The cat, on a 2012, is a high flow that is the same size ID as the pipe connecting it. Nothin' to gut! :waytogo:

Gutting them will prob set P0430 P420. Years ago they made an aftremarket sensor that would plug into O2 sensor and send dummy voltage always showing they are good. If you can still get those there wouldn't be an issue gutting them.

Thanks for the responses.

DynoDynge, since you may know more about this topic... would a gutted cat produce similar or same emissions as one that is not gutted since it's already high flow?

Might be a dumb question but I'm always open to learning.

Definitely not Humvee. Hi flow doesn't mean the gasses bypass the catalyst. It does mean, however, that the gasses are directed in ways that optimize the interaction with the catalyst and minimize flow restriction at the same time.

There are lots of ways to mod your exhaust. I would suggest running with gutted/deleted cats not be one of 'em.

Very enlightening... thanks BigJ. So what's a guy gotta do to get the sound of a gutted cat without doing just that? Just an aftermarket exhaust?

Wellll that's kind of a loaded question. What does a gutted cat sound like? I had them on my 11sec Mopar, and hated the sound. It was tinny and ticky sounding.

Are you looking for a deeper throatier sound? Simply swapping mufflers might get ya there, or adding a resonator, or swapping in different headers, or even just changing the pipes to a different steel might.

When it comes to something like this, its totally in the eye (ear?) of the beholder. There's no "do this" kinda advise anyone can give ya, I'm afraid.

I understand. It's a trial and error type thing. I really want the throatier sound without dishing out the cash for an exhaust system. I'll look into mufflers and resonators.

I was reading about the DHM cutout and found that it decreases performance so that's a no no for me.
