RPG Navigation Mount
That there is a "Purdy" truck!
Thanks Blind1.
RPG Navigation Mount
UPS brought me a present the other day.
Features on this model are as follows:
- Low profile mount that will not obscure line of vision
- Permanent style mount that will make it more difficult to steal.
- Places unit in easy reach of both driver and passenger.
- Has adjustments for Up/Down and Tilt.
Note: RPG has a different lower bracket for use on models that don't have the factory Navigation.
Here is a shot showing off part of the Man Cave
After removing the version 3 home made mount
Tools needed:
- 4MM Allen
- ¼” small socket, extender and Ratchet
- 7mm small socket, (to remove the stock hex nuts)
- 7/16” open ended wrench
- 4 each #6-32 machine screws, 1” long with nuts and lock washers (Unless RPG will supply in future kits)
After putting this together without instructions, I figured out the
easiest way to do this would be to completely assemble the frame on the bench, Use the 6 (4mm Allen) button-head bolts and aircraft nuts leaving all the bolts backed off a turn from full tight. Mount frame to dash with the four hex (1/4”)sheet metal screws. Those you should tighten all the way (don’t over torque – pinkie tight is plenty!). I kept the upper tray liner as I already had holes there. I think it helps to reduce windshield glare and hides the other fasteners. Once you have the frame installed, remove the gray face plate that exposes the front four holes, on my model you need to open the SD Card Slot door to get the plate on and off. Connect the Rear wires to your GPS. Insert the 4 (#6-32 electrician style) screws thru the front face and secure with nuts/lock washers, (again don’t over torque). Adjust the up and down and tilt to suit, tighten the 6 frame bolts.
I did mine backwards, and secured the face plate first, too lazy to take apart, I completed the frame in sections. If you decide to do it this way, I used some tape to hold the nut into the open end wrench.
Don’t use a ratcheting wrench as there is not enough clearance to remove wrench…ask me how I know this…

Final result is a superior designed product that maximizes the sight line and places the unit in optimum position to operate, makes it more difficult to steal and keeps the unit stable. But
Why all of this effort for a Navigation mount?
a. Corey wanted to show off his mechanical engineering skills
b. Corey has too much time on his hands
c. It was the result of a wager between friends on who could design the best mount.
d. It was to make huge quantities of cash.
Well, we know it can’t be #b, as they have been swamped with the Chris Ross build, and #4 is right out as the demand for these is limited. Personally I don’t think he liked my invention and wanted it gone. Fair enough Corey, you win!
