Bumpers and Lights
OK, OK, OK sorry for all the teasing and drama, yes to all who guessed that RPG and RaceCo have teamed up to produce a line of Bumpers, Skids, Sliders, Passenger Roll Cage and more. Jamie Campbell owner of Raceco is the master behind the MIG and TIG welder.
Corey did all the mechanical engineering. Together we came up with what you see here. Keep in mind that RPG will be offering the bumpers in a wide variety of styles to accommodate individual needs, lights, winches etc.
Front bumper
RPG will be offering two basic styles; The Pre-Runner which is shown on my Truck and a Race-Line version.
Pre-Runner – it is made from primarily 130 mild steel, the front main hoop has a continuous 70” bend to match the contours of the front.
Un-like other bumpers, this is a 2 piece bumper design that bolts in 10 chassis mounting locations for exact fitment and strength. When you have one single mounted bumper, it's much easier to knock it out of alignment. The front skids are also two pieces so if you happen to destroy one it is easily replaced without having to bend one continuous piece into place.
The bumper bolts onto the frame with no less than 10 Bolts! 4 on each side on the frame horns and 2 attach to those monstrous bolts on the steering box. It’s the strongest front bumper out there, imo.
We wanted to get this first one done in time for Day in the Dirt, and finished the skids at 6:00 Friday night and we were in the dirt Sat morning. There simply wasn’t time to do the top hoop that I wanted primarily for looks, not that it mattered, as I was only testing and showing off the bolt on design of the Pre-Runner style. Since we already voided my frame warranty with the mods to the rear, I am going for the Race-Line version!
Race-Line – Will be similar in design to the Pre-Runner but will be able to have a shorter approach angle by shaving the front Frame horns. MTF
Front Light:
We used the 5 Watt Vision X Mitter Prime Extreme.
Any more superlatives in that name and they face literary arrest, but the light output defends the name.
This little 20” light throws out over 17,000 lumens, more than the original 40” Rigid.
It is securely located inside the front bumper protecting it from theft. This model allows you to add or remove defusing lenses so you can alter which ones you want for Spot vs. Flood. Right now we have some on the outside with the “Flood” lenses.
