This is an interest check primarily directed towards those who have little or no off-road experience in their trucks.

We’re thinking about putting together a relatively basic guided ride possibly as early as next weekend on the ORV trails in Northern Michigan (Lower Peninsula) that’ll focus on entry level to intermediate driver skills, radio use, trail etiquette, etc. which will also help familiarize people with how we conduct our runs. Cost would be dependent on level of participation.

Depending on the response and success of this, we could possibly start offering similar guided rides and driver training on a more regular basis (whether for a small group or individual) if the demand is there.

That being said who would be interested in this?

This is a great idea! The only draw back as some have posted the distance will limit the participation. You could do something like this at the main event like on Friday afternoon but that would mean more time off for some. In rallies sometimes in the past they have had a rally school just before the event that is a qualifier for a race license.

I wish I had some time to help out if you do get something going.

As Mark stated this is a run really aimed towards being comfortable with events such as the Snoball or other trail events. We have chosen an area with a lot of different types of terrain as well as some road crossings to get you familiar with what procedures to do.

It will be a route for everyone from the beginners to highly skilled drivers. There is a stretch of trail that will give almost everyone the chance to lead the group. The emphasis here is on group efficiency and speed.

There will also be a couple areas to pull over and photograph and video other drivers. Also maybe some driver instruction as well.

If you have any questions please let us know.

We do understand that and for those who are a great distance away we know it's tough to get in on. That being said, if there ends up being a demand for this we can also work with people coming a greater distance on scheduling. Again, if there is the demand. Right now we wouldn't be able to offer much outside our relative geographical locations (Jason in MI & me in PA) do to career constraints and obligations.

I am thinking about doing something like this next weekend possibly if there is enough interest.

11-23/24
Location: Northern Michigan
Requirements: Radio, ready to learn and have fun. GLRE has 3 radio for rent or radios for purchase.
Cost: Depends on participants. (1-5 $200 , 6-10 $150 per truck)
Distance: 100-200 miles offroad depending on what the group wants to do.
Includes: Offroading, trail etiquette and tactics, and a great time!
Giveaway: Giveaway will be dependant on group size. Giveaways could range from a WSI dune flag mount to Free entry into the 2014 Snoball.

This would be a great time for anyone who is interested in learning how to lead/control a group of Raptors over large distances, radio communication and improving your offroad skill.

Send us an email (GLREoffroad at gmail.com) or a PM if intersted.

I'd be interested, but it wouldn't be possible for me at the moment.

Chris,
What if I were to put something similar together at Rausch Creek after Thanksgiving for the East Coasters? Maybe go over proper techniques for climbing over obstacles, using the hill decent control, traction control, etc. If it's snowing there are areas (that weren't available at Havoc) where we could go over cold weather tactics and control.

Thoughts?
Mark
