It was a clean sheet design in 2017. Hardly “long in the tooth”.The 3.5 is getting long in the tooth. Hopefully they at least bump up the power or go another direction with a v8 ohv. There a bunch of suvs and cars with more power
what problems did u have with the yoda?Hasn’t had a plastic oil pan since early 2018 I believe. The 3.5 engine has so far been more reliable to me at least than the 5.7 Tundra V8 I had. The 3.5 did get a power bump in 2021, It’s just not advertised.
That’s partially true, there are a few SUV’s out there sporting more power, but your first point is not lost. Going another direction would be a challenge though, cost Ford more and we’re already subsidizing the EV push so they can easily tweak the 3.5 for more. The 3.5 is getting long in the tooth. It is 7 model years old now, hp and torque are unchanged from 2017. I think the comment is fair. It’s not unreasonable to expect some changes to push the envelope a bit. When you look at the Mustang, how long do power levels stay static? Now, how about the Powerstroke? Ford is keen to stay on top of the heavy duty truck pedestal. You don’t see the PSD sitting at the same power levels for 7 years. It was a clean sheet design in 2017. Hardly “long in the tooth”.
Not really. It got de-restricted in lower gears because we didn’t need to worry about axle wrap and wheel hop like with the live axle, but the peak numbers are unchanged. The 3.5 did get a power bump in 2021, It’s just not advertised.
Yea, they just make engines out of thin air, it’s not like that requires years of development and tens of millions of dollars in design, engineering, and manufacturing investments Never mind the fact that you aren’t matching the combination of power, torque, and efficiency out of any V8.They can make any size ohv v8 out of any material. Im still shocked to find out the 3.5 has a plastic oil pan?! Seems like the powerstroke gets a power bump every couple months. 7 year old engine and a gen 3.5 outta no where coulda used a power bump
I was just going off all the Dyno runs, and I know they aren’t making those runs in gears 1-3 …more like 5 or 6. Did they have torque limits on gears 1-6? Also the compression ratio was increased. There were engine changes. Not really. It got de-restricted in lower gears because we didn’t need to worry about axle wrap and wheel hop like with the live axle, but the peak numbers are unchanged.
